So, this is something that I've been thinking about since last summer, so I guess finally writing it down might get it out of my head.

I had my sketch folder with me at the pool, and I was bored, so I was working on a drawing. I really suck at drawing hands, so the person I was drawing looked like they had claws. This one kid, one of the fastest kids on swim team, sees me drawing and says "Why does she have claws?" I answer, half joking, "Because I suck at drawing." Then he asks "Then why do you draw?"

I don't remember what I said, but I've been thinking about what I could have said for a long time. This is what I've come to.

I would ask "Well, why do you swim?"
Hopefully, he would say something like "Because I like doing it."
Then I would say "Well, that's why I draw. You don't have to be good at something to enjoy doing it. And the only way you can get better is by practicing, right?"

So yeah, that's what I've come to.

Gee, I never realized how corny that sounds. Oh well.
