So I have this concept for a novel based on another weird dream that I had last night. I was an adult, in New York for a business conference. New York City was a big change from the small town life that I had known before. Getting on the flight home, I overheard two panicked scientists discussing how the ground was rising, swallowing everything on the surface, and how they had recently discovered underground caverns with great trees growing, poking through to the surface. Those caverns were the only way to avoid death on the surface. We would have to begin again underground, it was like a whole different world down there. I thought they were crazy. When I got home, I was startled to see the trees growing straight up through huge cracks in the earth. Myself and the rest of my town, reduced to tears, were forced to move underground. The caverns were dark but hospitable. There were places where the earth hadn't completely risen, leaving gaps that we used as windows. Even underground, we still needed sunlight. A whole host of cavern-dwelling plants and fungi grew, so we still had something to eat. Maybe everything would..... be ok?
