A Jewish legend tells us that King Solomon once asked a jeweler to design a ring and inscribe words on the ring band that would be true and appropriate at all times in all situations.
Some days later, the jeweler brought the king a ring inscribed witht he words, This to shall pass.
On bad days, the king would read the inscription and be reassured, and when he was having an especially good day, the king would read it and be sobered.
