Chapter 3
I woke to the sound of birds chirping and cows mooing outside my window. I had gone to bed early the previous night as my hunt for a book had proven unsuccessful. I rolled over only to find my cat Winky blocking my path. We had two cats. Kitty, who was the mother of Winky, was nearly three years old. Winky was less then a year old but was bigger then Kitty was. He was fast asleep. I stroked him. He awoke and began to purr. I glanced at my clock. It was quarter to eight. Another advantage of living by school: I could get up late and still be there early. School started at nine. I would get there about eight thirty on an average morning. I began to get up then it hit me. It was Saturday. I didn't have to get up until 6 p.m. if i wanted to. I was practically already up so I didn't bother getting back into bed. I tiptoed down to the kitchen. No one else was up which wasn't surprising. I poured myself a cup of coffee and only after a few seconds, my cup was empty. Lots of my friends thought I was weird, drinking coffee at the age of 12. Until the beginning of this year, I had been drinking tea. I started that when I was young. Mum said I was about three. I never really understood why someone would give their children tea at such a young age. It didn't really bother me or anything. I peered out the window. It was cloudy but not cold. I went out and unchained our heading dog cross, Miffy. Although she was a sheep dog, we never trained her and she was more of a pet. She was about five years old. She was ecstatic. She ran away about 10 meters then bounded back towards me. I did the most irresponsible thing you could possibly do at that moment. I ran. I turned just in time to see somthing dive onto me. I hit the ground withh a thump. I lay there for a few seconds. A large, soggy tonge attacted my face. "Oh Miffy! Outside!" She immediately backed away. She sat down a lolled her tongue out panting. I scratched her head before going back inside. Mum had just gotten up. She was very surprised when I entered the room. " Your up early for a weekend!" "I know! I was wondering, could Lara come over today?" I asked. " I don't know. Have you got any homework?" Mum said. "No. I finished on Thursday." "Give her a call after launch time and you can see what she's up to."
