Stained Glass, Unread Letters, and Notes from a Lonely Boy
There's nothing more consterning than life~
It's Thursday night, I'm in the car, and the radio is playing a talk show from 92.3 "Free FM".
Awesome, another talk show! Just imagine my serene expression.
John's driving, I'm riding shotgun, Angelina and Wendy are chatting in the back.
Some random man is ranting on about Giuliani and the Pope. He opens up with how this morning's newspaper read "Giuliani vs the Pope". Then he manages to completely demolish any slight credit of intelligence that I granted him automatically for being human, by saying that upon reading that title, he immediately imagined them in a pay-per-view boxing match. Giuliani VS Pope. Boxing Max. Giuliani VS Pope. Pay-per-view. Giuliani VS Po--does anybody besides me not see the connection between Giuliani, the Pope, and Boxing matches?
Wow, what an idiot. But then again he's a talkshow host; go figure.
Basically the Pope and Giuliani clashed on abortion rights. But following Mr. Retard-Talkshow-HostMan, if they ever were to box, who would you bet on?
I know that Giuliani was all badass and strong on 9/11, not to mention he's an Italian, but seriously...I would have to bet on the Pope. And not every Italian is a Rocky.
That guy was a Nazi. Back in the 20's he was one of those guys doing the goosemarch, heiling Hitler, and killing Jews.
Plus, he's got the whole weight of the Catholic Church with him. Yeah, that's pretty powerful; mad child molesting powers. If you want to attempt to take on the Catholic Church, don't use male soldiers or little boys. They're both vulnerable to priests.
Okay, so I'll have to give the Pope some credit. He was technically a "hilter Youth" member...which was mandatory from the age of 14 up in the country he lived in.
But he refused to go to meetings, and was chastised for it many times. So perhaps he still is a good guy.
I hate how people seem to focus on things such as that.
"Wow, he was a member of the HITLER YOUTH. HE MUST BE EVIL, WHY IS HE POPE?"
How about he had to be? But he refused to go to meetings? Maybe he is a perfect candidate for Pope, because he lived through such hard times and attempted to save Jews [which he did]?
I opened up this post in sarcasm.
But I'm getting more and more serious as it goes on.
People cannot ignore the Pope. Or his influence. Nor can you ignore his power.
He is supposedly God's "right-hand man" on Earth. Not to mention that, he is the literal leader of Catholics around the globe.
But what's up with religion? And the Bible? I'm being skeptical, because seriously, God did NOT fax Christians the Bible from Heaven.
He did not write it literally either.
So where exactly did the Holy Book come from? And if people wrote it, why is it the word of God anyways? Did God dictate and a man write? No? Then doesn't it just make the Bible the world's best-selling novel?
Yes a novel. Fiction. Not fact.
And why does this bother me?
Because of the concept of faith.
In the car, as John proceeds to Christianity-bash, Angela starts to cringe and Wendy gets really angry.
"It is God's word! That is what we live by! We believe in him! And that's all that matters OR counts!"
So Wendy and John have a fire fight in the car, while I just sat and contemplated things.
Nobody can prove that the Bible is true or that it is right, neither that or whos that God is real. And yet people's faith in a God is undeniable...and is unbelievable.
Why are people so apt and ready to believe in something such as God? And purely based on a book?
As we went up the road, I saw small American Flags planted beneath the mailboxes on the street. I wondered why they were there and who organized it; seeing the flags line up past quite a few streets, I got curious, and asked who knew some about them.
Angela snapped out of her daze and said that the Fire Department had put them there, and that she had seen them do it. They wanted to show a sense of unity and patriotism. In a cryptic sense, they're showing that the community wasn't supporting them enough so they needed to create the ruse that they did...by planting flags.
Thus if I were a traveler, a tourist, and I went through the streets, I would be amazed by the patriotism and unity of this town. I would be awed and personally be proud of my country too and the emotions it invokes in my fellow citizens. However I would be believing that each family bought the flag and planted it beneath their mailbox personally. Not that a fire department--instead of fighting fire--went through the town and put them there.
So whereas millions believe in God, so few believe in the Fire Department, or in America?
Or in the ideal of freedom?
It takes an immigrant to truly appreciate what America is worth. Being born here and having these rights throughout your entire life makes you unappreciative; it makes you forget that being able to say anything isn't an inherent right, to be able to chose your own future isn't a given gift everywhere.
I can't believe it sometimes.
Given the chose between a black leather bound book, and a flag, people always seem to chose the book.
Why is it that nobody thinks that their own country is worth believing in?
