Chapter 10
As the two of them walked away from the two groups Kiro watched with a weary eye. When they were finally out of earshot and eyesight of the two groups he stopped and looked at her with curiosity as she did the same. He liked the way her eyes reflected her every emotion and wondered what it was she wished to discuss.
“I’m sorry but I must ask…” Sana said breaking the silence between them “exactly what clan do you come from?”
He was slightly shocked at how soft and nervous her voiced seemed to sound but was even more so by the question she had asked him.
“Do you mean right now, or the one I was born into?” He asked looking away.
“Okay let me rephrase that…” She said
Taking off her necklace that held the pendent she held it up so that Takon could see it. His eyes opened wide with shock at the pendent she had and grabbed his own as if to make sure she hadn’t stolen it.
“I first gathered a lot of interest about you when I saw that you possessed a pendent that was almost a complete replicate of mine.” She said in a soft tone.
“Wait…how old are you?” He asked “I’m 21 and I’m sure that you’re younger then me.”
“Technically I’m 1,018 years old but I’m still considered to be just 18.” She said with a shrug
“How can you technically be 1,018 years old?” He said confused “It can’t be possible.”
“Long story short I went through a time warp.” She said “Even I don’t know all of the details of what happened.”
“Oh I see...so about the clan.” He said “You asked which clan I came from. I was born into the Seshori Clan but was exiled for falling in love with a woman from another clan…They’ve been that way since a young warrior fell in love with~”
“~a woman from the Morphina Tribe, I know…” She interrupted
Takon stood there staring at her stunned.
“I know much about that situation. The warrior’s name was Nicanu and Sayran was the chief’s daughter from the Morphina Tribe.” Sana said quietly as she sat against a nearby tree. “Both betrayed their clans and ran off to marry.”
“You say betray as if it was something small! That woman’s tribe attacked my clan when they were unguarded thinking they had kidnapped her!” He snapped at her angrily “My people lost many casualties due to this attack!”
Sana visibly flinched and suddenly found it very hard to contain and control her emotions.
“Do you think the couple’s life was any easier?! They had to flee for their lives from Sayran’s father just because they had fallen in love! They couldn’t even find rest or solace even after giving birth to their daughter!” Sana retaliated in a quiet yet dangerous tone that escalated to yelling “And for what?! In the end, when they finally thought it was safe to find peace, for that one night, they were brutally murdered in front of their hidden daughter’s eyes scaring her forever in emotional pain!”
“There was never a daughter born! If there had been then her birth would have been recorded! And besides the couple was never murdered because if they were then their bodies would have been found!”
“They couldn’t record her birth because every time they tried to they were ambushed!” Sana seethed finally snapping “They never had a single chance to do anything of the sort before my grandfather killed them in cold blood and set fire to our refuge! I sat there hidden in the shadows hearing their screams of terror and pain as their bodies were destroyed and mutilated! So don’t you ever doubt that they had a daughter, or that their lives were any better than the attack my grandfather’s tribe placed on my father’s clan, MY CLAN!!”
Takon stood there in horrid shock from what had poured from her mouth. Her eyes had turned to a deep red and he knew instantly that he’d gone too far. He quickly sat down before his legs gave out from the shock.
“S-so you-you’re~”
“Yes. I am the dau~”
Suddenly the images came back faster and more intense then any time she could remember. She fell over convulsing from the pain that coursed through her mind. Sensing that something had happened to Sana Kiro ran through the woods till he found her. When he saw the state that she was in he ran to her side and wrapped his arms around her as the panic and fear welled up in his eyes.
“What the hell did you do to her?!” He yelled at Takon
“I-I didn’t do anything to her she jus collapsed!” Takon said freaked out
“You damn b*****d if you’re lying I’ll~”
In his arms Sana stirred and looked up at him painfully her breathing labored.
“Kiro don’t be mad at him.” She said weakly “He’s from my father’s clan…we exchanged words and I told him about the night my parents died.”
“If I knew she’d have this kind of a reaction from the death of the two traitors I’d~”
“Don’t you ever call her parents traitors…” Kiro growled
“Then what would you have me call them? It’s not like they were any better then the very ground we’re walking on.”
Just as the words managed to come out Kiro slammed his fist into Takon’s jaw. The force of the impact spun him around and slammed him into a tree. Now riled Takon summoned a sword from thin air. Kiro stood there grinning evilly. Pulling his left fist back Sana noticed that it had started to glow dimly.
“Ice Blade!” Takon yelled as his sword came down towards Kiro’s head.
“Flaming Fist of Hell!” Kiro yelled
His fist, which was now covered in an orange flame came up and, not only broke Takon’s sword but smashed right into his face. Tossing the broken sword aside in the air he was able to twist about so that he landed on his feet. Suddenly he grinned and, using his lightning speed that was a signature of the Seshori Clan, charged at Kiro while producing a dagger from his belt.
“Speed Slash!” He yelled mere inches away from Kiro
Thought Kiro tried to sidestep in time he felt sudden pain in his side. Looking down he saw that Takon had managed to slash through his tunic and touch skin. Now knowing that Takon had gotten serious he decided that it was time that he should get serious as well.
“You’ve managed to cut me…I’d admit that it was impressive speed but I’m fairly sure I can match it with out much use of my energy.” Kiro said with a grin
Slowly Sana managed to stand as she watched the fight. Just as the two of them were about to attack each other again she staggered between them and held both hands out.
“That’s enough!!!” She roared, her breath ragged “This fighting is useless…I’d say it would be best if we just returned to our groups and~”
Sana’s entire body swayed to the right, enough so that she staggered and both of them saw how weak she still was. The two of them looked at each other then nodded and walked over to Sana’s side so that she would be able to remain standing.
“Guys you can let go of me I’m fine.” She said pushing away from her support “I’m use to this kind of thing by now.”
“Are you sure you’re okay to walk?” Takon asked worried
“I’m fine really!” She reassured them
With a shrug he allowed her to walk by herself though he kept a watchful eye on her to make sure she wouldn’t fall over. Kiro was doing the same but didn’t like Takon watching her the way he was, even if it was for the best intentions. As they neared the clearing Sana paused to rest momentarily. While waiting for her to recover Takon walked over and stood next to her closely.
“Forgive me but now I must ask you a question.” He said softly
“What is it Takon?” She asked him with a puzzled look “You may ask me anything.”
“Does the name…” Takon paused slightly unsure if he should ask “does the name Ranshura Dunina mean anything to you?”
The shock that appeared in her eyes showed that the name did indeed mean something to her. She was thankful that she had the support of the tree behind her in fear that she might fall over without it. However Takon was rather unprepared for what her answer was.
“H-how can it be…I-I thought he was dead…he couldn’t possibly…” She said with dread “I…I killed him myself…he…he can’t be alive…”
Kiro noticed what Sana’s reaction to the question was and rushed to her side. When he placed his hands on her shoulder he could feel her entire body trembling. Just as he went to yell at Takon he saw the dark expression on the young man’s face and forced his anger to be held in.
“Miss…how is it that you know this man?” He asked with a soft tone
“First off my name is Sanasha Fuamorie…Sana for short.” She said sitting on the ground weakly “Second…I knew him from long ago…”
“What is this about?” Kiro asked confused “Who did you know?”
“His name is Ranshura Dunina. He once tried to kill me when he found out what my connection was to my parents…”
“So his story is true…he did attempt to kill Sayrani’s true heir, only to be out witted and nearly killed in the end.” Takon mumbled quietly
“What do you mean by saying I’m Sayrani’s heir?” She asked
Kiro stood next to her and waited patiently for Takon to answer. Takon’s gaze went from Sana to Kiro then to the ground before going back to meet Sana’s eyes.
“Before I left my clan I’d hear that if the missing woman ever had a child, especially a girl, that he or she would be a true descendent of the legendary female warrior Sayrani.” He said looking at the ground.
“But why am I the true heir?” She asked in disbelief
Takon shrugged, unknowing what the answer was.
“All I can say is that if you truly are Sayrani’s reincarnation then that means that Rokun has also been reborn.” He said
“Now that I think about it, I’m pretty sure there was an old picture of Sayrani in the back of the book” Kiro said
“Let us join our groups again and then you can accompany us to the next town. From there we can talk more about this book you mentioned.” Takon said
After agreeing that it was a good idea, they returned and Takon told Lord Darnon about their plan. With a quick nod of his head the two groups merged into one. As they began to walk down the road, for Kiro had refused to let Sana transform, Sana walked alongside Takon while Kiro and the others talked with Lord Darnon. When Sana clumsily tripped on an unseen root, Takon suddenly picked her up and carried her on his back. Though Kiro was filled with the urge to separate the two he told himself that Takon was just being polite, though he continued to keep a wary eye on them.
‘Relax Kiro,’ Sana said to him telepathically, ‘he’s only being a gentleman.’
‘I still don’t trust him enough,’ He replied back vexed that she knew what he was up to, ‘I feel as if he’s planning something. Just be careful around him okay?’
‘I will I promise…by the way I have something that I want to tell you later.’
‘Same here.’ He said glancing back at her and smiling, ‘How about after dinner?’
‘Sounds fine to me.’ She said returning his smile
The next few hours passed slowly and soon everyone had lapsed into silence. When they finally reached the top of the last hill before the town they stopped short. Takon put Sana down and she came to stand next to Kiro in stunned silence
“Wait, where is it?!” Kiro asked shocked
“It’s…gone…” Sana said quietly
