thursday
4:12 P.M.
well, i’m on my way to austin right now. i am going to austin because my sister’s graduation is tomorrow. it’s going to take four hours to get there, so i thought i would bring my compy. this is going to be really boring. four hours of torture in a car while listening to national public radio (NPR). so far i’ve been allowed to look out the window. i just hope this goes by fast.
5:28 P.M.
we just got out of a rest stop. it’s one of our faves. it’s a little kolache shop that also sells texas a&m and university of texas items along with candy, drinks, food, and other things. i got a dr. pepper and my dad got a card for my sister’s graduation. he also got a diet coke and my mom got a sprite zero (i don’t what it is about her and sprite, but she says she likes it because it doesn’t have any caffeine). right now i’m watching a fly crawl/fly around the car. personally, i don’t mind, but i’m just thinking of how one of my friends would react if there was a fly. she would most likely freak out and say, “oh my gosh it’s a fly!” normally when i’m with her, i end up answering, “sara, it’s not going to hurt you.” and she says, “yeah, but it’s still scary. it’s going to gang up on me one of these days.” usually when she says this, i think to myself, could she get any dumber? of course, she’s a blonde, so that might have something to do with it. i think bugs are really interesting. of course, i grew up with no fear of anything. . . .except for heights. anyway, i’ll type something as soon as something interesting happens or pops up in my mind. it might be a while before that happens.
6:39 P.M.
WOOOO!!!!!! we’re in austin now, so that’s good. of course, we’re at the very edge of town. anyway, now all we have to do is look for our hotel, which is the marriot right near the convention center, check in, get our stuff into our, then meet my sister at the south congress café. we’re going to have dinner there, then we’re going back to our hotel and settling in. this is normal for my family. as soon as we’re checked in the hotel and have our stuff in the room, we hit the town. then we settle into our room. i love austin. it’s so cool!!!!
7:40 P.M.
we’re checked into our hotel now. after we checked into our hotel, we called julie, my sister, to see what she was doing. she was getting her nails done, so we went for a walk. dad wasn’t really into walking, but we made him get up and walk. it was pretty good. it would have been more interesting if we were actually able to find some really good shops to go into and look around.
11:02 P.M.
well, we just got back from the south congress café. it was fun. mom and dad talked about their life in vermont and what it was like. they talked about the little garden they had in their backyard. originally, the house had been an inn for sailors and they would throw their stuff in the backyard in the 1800’s. my parents found a lot of little bottles, pipes, and gravel in the back. When they had dug it all up, my dad made a little garden and had watermelons, corn, and other things. half of the stuff that made up the soil was the bottles, pipes, and such. so what he did is he went to the stables that held the police horses, collected the manure, and used it in the soil for the garden. anyway, we talked on and on about my parents’ experiences, like the times my dad went sailing. it was a lot of fun. one thing i learned about having a conversation with a group of people is that it’s easier for me to shut up and listen and only to talk when necessary. it really sucks, but i would rather be reading in my room than try and make a conversation with a group of older people. their stories are interesting, but i get really put out when i don’t feel included. anyway, my parents are in bed now, watching the namesake. i’m going to try and get some sleep. good night. i’ll talk more tomorrow.
friday
7:25A.M.
we just got up and right now mom is taking a shower. so i have to wait until she’s done before I can take my shower. anyway, i was standing there, thinking on how badly i needed a shower, when i realized that it was my birthday. it’s kinda weird that i’m 17 now. guess that i’m going to have to get used to it.
6:14 P.M.
well, i don’t feel any different than i did yesterday. anyway, we went to julie’s graduation, which took like 3 hours, then we had lunch. yet again, in the car, i felt left out. after that, mom, dad, and i came back to the hotel and got changed out of our fancy clothes. mom and i then went up to book people, a store that sells books (obviously) and julie and dane came by to meet us. julie got me the lord of the rings: the return of the king, blush, and a mirror for my birthday. i now realize that julie likes to spoil me, and i don’t really like being spoiled. It’s really no fun at all. I like getting stuff for myself when i need it. i don’t need it to be given to me. i don’t feel right when someone gives me something i don’t need. well, i’m going to have to go now. see ya.
saturday
12:36 P.M.
we are about to have lunch at the spaghetti warehouse. i love it. it’s always been on of my pastime faves. anyway, after we have lunch, we’re going to help julie pack up so she can go to Nicaragua. so i'll have to talk to you later.
10: 42 P.M.
well, we had fun. i didn’t like going up and down three flights of stairs carrying boxes, but in between going up and down the stairs, i got to watch parts of robin hood: men in tights, which was really funny. anyway, we went to dinner, and then i went back to the hotel because i knew i was going to be bored of them talking to each other. on my way down sixth street, i almost went into one of the pubs because of the music, then i would look at myself and say, “damn it, I’m not wearing my party clothes.” my sister said i wouldn’t have been allowed in anyway. so i went back down to the hotel, got my bathing suit on, and went down to the pool. there were two guys already there in the hot tub, but i was just going to be using the pool (the pool was like 90 degrees). so i swam a few laps. one of the guys left while i was swimming. after he left, i thought i might as well get into the hot tub (that thing was like 9 degrees hotter than the pool). i sat in the hot tub for a while and chatted with the guy who was still there. i soon found out that his name was daniel and that he was visiting austin with his dad, who had gone to UT to get a degree as a PhD. While we were talking, I started sweating from the heat of the hot tub. when i came back to the room, my parents were there watching fay grin. anyway, i had better get some sleep now. see ya!
sunday
11:24 A.M.
it’s Sunday, and i’m very sad because we have to leave today. i had a really fun weekend, but it’s not quite over yet, not until we get home. anyway, my parents woke me up at about ten till ten, so we had to hurry and get our breakfast. Unfortunately, everything was gone, except for the cereal. i had two bowls of fruit loops, some oj, and some coffee, but that didn’t fill me up very well. somehow, cereal doesn’t fill me up like it used to. i guess it’s a good thing because then i can work up an appetite for lunch. i’d better go now because my parents want to be ready to leave on a second’s notice. i’ll talk later.
4:21 P.M.
i slept the whole trip home. pretty sad, huh? anyway, the only thing we did do was go to mak’s roadhouse for lunch. that was about it. there’s my totally awesome weekend for you.
