It's Friday, 6th of July - the annual Library Awards for my school. ^^
Unlike before, I knew what's going to happen today. Roughly, that is, mainly because sir had asked Ethan, Matt, Josh and I to come a few weeks prior to make sure that the awards goes to the right people. Not all, but the majority. So today, I stayed in the library after having my lunch, just waffling around with the rest of my mates as we waited. We were just joking and laughing around, relaxing in the library as usual, but Ethan, Matt, Josh and I had a secret we've been hiding since our meeting for the Library Awards. And really, I was glad that it was still a secret! Anyway, we waited, and when it was about 25 minutes to 1pm, the "guests" started to pile into the library, but I couldn't see Hidaya anywhere.
So I slipped outside and ran to the highest floor in the maths corridor and went into my maths room, spotting my other friends there. One of them beckoned me to come to her and I did, realising that she needed help with her English assignment. So I sat down, helped her with what I could under two minutes before the lesson bell. And a few seconds before it rang, I dashed back downstairs and went into the library again, greeting Paul with a small smile. The event had started.
Like always, kids were buzzing around - endless chatter, especially from the younger kids because naturally, they don't know the procedures. But sir just continued handing out the medals, certificates and reviews. I got some as well until he then made a small speech about a top book reviewer who "manages to make me read the books I had already read" and surprisingly, it turned out to be me. o.O I went forward, accepted my trophy (which was the second trophy I received for the title) and I thanked him. ^^ But I went back, sitting down at the librarian desk with the other three - we were fidgeting, really.. the secret was hard to keep with all the buzz. xD
The final award from sir was a trophy for Lauren who received the title as the most useful librarian - me and the other three chose her during that meeting, I'm happy to admit. And surprisingly, she burst into tears of shock and happiness, seriously. But I can understand.. I mean, it's her first year in Secondary Phase. o.O Matt stepped forward, but sir wanted to thank the lady who were giving out the certificates, so we had to wait (fidgeting again) while she was presented with a bunch of yellow roses which she accepted thankfully. And finally, sir called Matt again and he stepped forward - I followed close, motioning Josh to follow after me.
The present was for sir. It was an own-made certificate from me and a box of chocolates from Matt, but the thought came from us all - Matt, Josh, me and Ethan. So Matt stepped forward and sir crouched low slightly to listen. Matt said that there was one more award to be given - which is for him. Sir shook his head, protesting, but I countered with a nod, turning to the audience and told them to hush. Matt suddenly got the chills, so I rolled my eyes at him, took the piece of paper from his hands, gave him the certificate and I spoke to the audience, thanking sir out loud while Matt presented him with the certificate - Josh gave him the box of chocolates and I led the audience with a round of applause. As I did so, I did catch sir's eye and he gave me a look which told me that he was quite touched - I was as well. xD
That was supposed to be the final award for that day. Everyone else went out, leaving behind the senior librarians, the past Y11 (Roxy and Dan N) and.. me. ^^ I started to help them place the tables and chairs back into place and sir treated us with some biscuits and orange juice, but we enjoyed chatting to each other, ignoring our lessons and just messing around, basically. I went back behind the desk to store my certificates when sir suddenly approached me, holding out two books - "Henry Tumour" by Anthony McGowan and "Kiss of Death" by Malcolm Rose - the two books shortlisted for the Sheffield Children Book Awards by the two authors who visited my school on Tuesday. I asked him on what he wanted me to do with them - whether to save them or to put them back to the shelves, but I did observe and notice that not only were the books new, they didn't have the plastic covers as well. Sir just shook his head and said they were mine, accompanied by my present for being a top reviewer.
Needless to say, I was speechless.
Sir did know that I didn't have those two books because I spent my money on the five "Lawless and Tilley" books my Malcolm Rose. And when I opened those books, they were signed. @_@ Gave me the real creeps, and I was speechless - literally. I stared at him for a moment, shaking my head, trying to thank him, but the words wouldn't come out. I could only whisper, but he understood and nodded with a smile.
Overall.. it was an excellent day. Rino-chan.
