Chatpter1 Gear walked briskly towards the light. It was five thirty at night and he had to make it home soon or he’d be late. He didn’t know why he had taken so long at the training cove, but he knew that he was going to be late, and his friends wouldn’t appreciate that. Why would they, they had always been there for him. He had almost reached the portal when he remembered that he had left his crystal shard at the cove. “Ugh, oh great” he said, still determining if he should go back or not. What am I thinking I can’t lose that shard, but she’s my best friend and… He took one long look at the portal, blinked, and turned to go back to the cove. He ran as fast as his feet could carry him. He was a good runner. He always had been, ever since his first training. When he had to run four miles non-stop he was the only one who had finished. He got to the cove quickly, and entered the over sized doors. Master Jak was still at his desk writing up training techniques and instructions. “Yes, Gear, what can I help you with?” he said still scribbling away on his paper. “I left something in the lock room” he said talking what seemed one hundred miles an hour. He turned to leave with out an answer, which he knew was very rude to master Jak, but he was extremely late and his friends were probably wondering where he was. He turned into the room and grabbed for the crystal he had left on his bag. Then something caught his eye; the crystal, which was now tightly wrapped in his hands, was glowing a bright yellowish orange. It had never done that before; it would occasionally turn from its usual translucent white to purple and gray depending on the weather. I don’t have time to ask Master Jak right now, I have to get back home. He thought as he tucked it away in his large jacket pocket. He went back through the hall then, entered the huge main room where most of the training equipment was, and where Master Jak’s little desk was in the corner.
chapter 2 As Evan entered the hut he could see that the others were still asleep, it was twelve o’clock in the afternoon, and Evan hadn’t gotten any sleep all day. He was tired of the restless days and the slow nights. He sat down quietly and slowly; he most certainly didn’t want to wake Lana up, she was very cranky, she would probably rip his head off if he so as to touch her. The hours seemed to go by very slowly and only once in a while would Evan doze off. When he woke up again, Lana and Nite were already awake and out of the hut. He quickly rose and pulled on his jacket. When he was outside he took a deep breath and let out a long yawn. He walked towards where the others were. Nite was leaning on their small hut and Lana was sitting cross-legged on the ground stretching her arms out above her head. “Morning.” She sung, a huge smile stretched across her face. Evan tilted his head, smiled and sat down next to her. Sometimes he was afraid of Lana. She could sometimes be very temperamental. Nite was quiet, he didn’t have much to say, and he was debating on what to do to find the next shard. “Why you so quiet?” Lana said, rather loud. “I dunno.” He said turning his head away from them. He was looking for something, but he wasn’t quiet sure what. Evan looked up at Nite with a questioning look. “How come you been acting so weird lately, huh?” Lana said, helping Evan ask his question. “I’ve just been so confused.” Nite said, still scanning the area. “Bout what.” She said in a lovely voice. Evan wished he could say we’re here for you, but nothing came out of his mouth. “The shards, ya know, the wishes, I don’t know what I want any more.” He said. “What do ya mean” Lana snorted “We’re doing this to gain the power that’s rightfully ours and to eliminate all the good the angels are hoping for” she added shouting very bluntly. She pulled herself off the ground and stomped off, her large black boots kicking up the dirt. Nite pulled himself off the edge of the hut and strolled off towards the woods where he was staring.
chapter 3 Gear had made it outside, without Master Jak seeing his glowing pocket, and now he was jogging back towards the portal. He broke into a sprint. About half way through Gear started running out of breath. Suddenly he stopped and clutched the shirt over his chest. It hurt him to breathe, he was gasping and had to bend over and catch his breath. What’s happening to me? He could only think this; he didn’t have enough energy to speak. He was already in enough trouble he didn’t need this too. He was tired and he didn’t know why, but he had to keep walking. So he gathered himself up and started walking as fast as he could. When Gear made it to the portal it was almost dark, he had to half drag himself to get through. As soon as he had reached the other side of the portal, he could see Ray leaning up against a tree in front of the dim forest that Gear and his friends had to pass through on their way home from the cove everyday. “So you finally decided to show.” He said rolling his eyes. “Sorry.” Was all gear could say before he collapsed. “Holy crap!” Ray said crouching down next to his friend, but he was already unconscious. As Gear opened his eyes he could see his friend standing over him. He stared up at Kairie’s big bluish-gray eyes. “Are you ok?” She said blankly. Gear Quickly sat up “I’m so sorry, please I had to…” was all he said before Kairie placed her finger over his lips. Ray strolled into the room. “Good morning sun shine.” He said sarcastically. “I’m sorry guys. I took extra time at the cove, and I accidentally left the shard there.” Gear said pulling Kairie’s finger off his lips. “You left it at the cove.” Ray said wide-eyed. “No I went back for it.” Gear said standing up. “Good, because I would have to kick you butt if someone would have stolen it.” Ray muttered raising his fists. “You’re so careless.” He added. Ray had heard enough, he was starting to worry about Gear. Lately he had been careless, slacking off in training and he was sleeping late. Ray couldn’t stand to see him like this, Gear was his friend and Ray had to look after him.
chapter4 Nite was now in the deepest part of the woods; he had been wandering around for forty minutes, and still hadn’t made up his mind. His brain cells were having wars, his head hurt and he had no idea what to do. We have been searching for this crystal for too long, we have three crystal shards, and I’m tired of disappointment. I just wish I wasn’t born in this time, if I was born 200 years ago I wouldn’t be in this mess. Just then the sky darkened more then it already was. The clouds were moving very slowly, and they were becoming gray. Nite glanced up at the black sky; he saw a flash of lightening creep across the darkness. It’s beautiful; Nite had always had a passion for thunderstorms. BOOOM a huge thud of thunder broke the dead silence of the woods. It had made Nite jump slightly. Then the rain started to pour down from the clouds. The rain was heavy as it rapidly slammed into to the dirt, making it moist and muddy. Nite was tired, his head was still pounding, and he wasn’t ready to go home. He decided to sit down and enjoy this show. So he sat down against the tree, his head tilted back enough to see the storm. Just then he felt something inside his heart. He suddenly felt sad like he wanted to cry, he just wanted to be with someone who cared about him, and not just someone who used him to get the shards. Water was running down his checks, he couldn’t tell if it was tears or the rain, he hoped it was the rain he wanted to be brave he wanted to stand up and be bold. Why does it have to be like this? He asked himself. Why are we always at war? Why can’t we all be equal and respect each other? He knew if he had said that to he others they would have attacked him. He wasn’t exactly ready to go home but by the time he had thought everything over the storm had stopped and he was growing tired, and cold. He stood up wet and shivering, and started towards the hut.
chapter5 Ray couldn’t sleep at all; he tossed and turned on his hard bed. He was worried; Gear had never acted like this before. Usually dinner was a very social time, now he would sit at the dinner table during dinner and not say a word, or hardly even eat, he would play with his food until he got bored. He had been slacking off in training too often, and worst of all, he had missed Kairie‘s sixteenth Birthday, she had been there for his. Tomorrow they were going to search for the second shard and they had to be ready. Ray was afraid Gear wasn’t up for a mission right now. They were going to have to face many demons and they were going to have get rid of them before they could get the shard. The demons already had three shards; two more then the angel and they couldn’t afford to lose this one too. Ray pulled himself off the bed, which took more effort than he expected. Maybe I’m not ready either. He thought pulling a sweatshirt over the blackish blue shirt that hugged his body showing off his muscular abs. They lived across the way from the Fairy River, which was named after the creatures that were said to live there. Past the river was the woods they often walked through. Ray walked along the riverbank until he came to the bridge that lead to the opposite side, he crossed the bridge and walked into the darkness of the woods remembering his past. Remembering more than he wanted too. Remembering things he tried to put behind him. Remembering how alone he was as a child, how his parents decided to flee from the demons and leave him as an infant. How his older sister Kale was the only one who really cared for, and took care of him, joined the dark side. He wondered why he had been so alone until he met Gear and Kairie. Why had they been so nice to him when every one else didn’t care? Ray had found comfort in being with them, but lately not with Gear. He headed home, trying to shake off the feeling of emptiness
chapter 6 When Nite had arrived back at the hut it was about noon. He quietly stalked into the small rounded top hut; to make sure Lana wasn’t still in a bad mood. No one was there, so he grabbed a bottle of water and some bread off the wooden counter, and headed for his portion of the hut. He sat the food and water down on the little slab of wood by his bed that couldn’t exactly be called a table, and turned towards the dusty, hazy half a mirror. This is me? He asked himself flipping the hair that hung in front of his eyes with his pointer finger. He had never seen himself this tired and pitiful looking. His black ebony hair now reached his chin, and his vibrant green eyes were not so bright any more. He faked a smile and pulled up the sleeve on his long sleeved blue shirt to wipe the water that was still dripping from his face, and then pulled it off completely to dry his hair. Just then Evan came into the hut his light brown hair, sticking to his face from the rain. He tilted his head a bit towards Nite with his usual questioning look, but like every other day he said nothing. He slowly walked over to where Nite was standing. He too looked into the eyes of his reflection. He realized his golden eyes were getting duller and his face was practically expressionless. What’s happening to the world? Evan thought opening his mouth to speak, but not a word came out. “Where’s Lana.” Nite asked grabbing the water off the wood side table, taking a massive sip, then removed the bread too. Evan shrugged. He had no clue where Lana had gone after Nite had left. “Is she still mad at me” he inquired stuffing what was left of the bread in his mouth. Again he shrugged, and shook his head. “Maybe its better I didn’t know any way.” Nite exclaimed laying down on his bed covering his eyes with his arms. Evan moved towards his bed and crawled underneath the blankets. Nite too, found his way under the blankets. He wished one day there would be somebody to lie by his side. After laying awake for what seemed to be hours, he fell into a dark, comfortable, sleep.
chapter 7 The morning came and Ray had only gotten a few hours of sleep. He was just about to doze off when the morning bell rang. Kairie was the only one who decided to spring into action. She jumped up and ran into the armor room and prepared for the battle. “Uh, guys you coming?” she said peering back into the room where they all slept. She shook her head and attempted to wake up the two slumbering boys. After Kairie had gotten the others up, and they were all ready, they headed out for the location of the next shard. The only advantage they had was their technology, they had more advanced technology than the demons had. The angels could track down a shard using their search instruments, the demons had only to rely on the aura the shards gave off. When they had finally reached the shard, the sun was directly overhead. They spotted it stuck up in a tree. “How the heck did that tiny little thing get that high?” Ray said pointing to the shard, the splinter sized piece of crystal. Gear, without saying a word, walked over to the tree. He started to climb. He was a foot away from his destination when he heard Ray “Not to rush you, no pressure or anything, but uh, they’re coming!” he yelled pointing to the two demons who were rushing towards them. “We got your back!” Kairie yelled reading herself for a fight. Kairie and ray who were to busy focusing on what to them seemed to be Evan and Lana, didn’t see Nite sneak up behind them. Nite jumped up, focused, then whipped out his fist hitting Gear in the chin so hard, he flew out of the tree. Nite had hit Gear so hard, when he hit the ground he toppled over in a heap on the hard forest floor. The breath was knocked out of him as he fell to the ground. Landing on his left shoulder. He let out a pitiful cry of pain and tried to catch his breath. Kairie was horrified she had never seen gear so weak and vulnerable. She shrieked as she ran over to Gear, who was slipping into a dark unconsciousness. “Come on we can’t do this with out you.” she said brushing the hair from his eyes.
chapter 8 It was two against one now Lana and Evan were both fighting Ray. Evan could tell Ray was struggling to keep his friends safe. He could also tell Lana was trying her hardest to break away from Ray to get the girl and the wounded one. If she did, she would give them no mercy. Evan was not trying his hardest. He really didn’t want to hurt any one. Unlike Nite, Lana and Evan were using long bladed swords against Ray’s two sided pole. When Evan or Lana swung their sword, Ray would counter by moving to the side or swinging the pole down to stop the sword from getting to close. Ray was good but Lana was better. Nite who now had the shard was racing towards Kairie and Gear. “This is it!” he yelled pulling out his sword. Kairie jumped up, as she picked up her pole. Nite with both hands drew up his sword over his head, then down it came right over Kairie. “Never!” she answered, her pole over her head blocking Nite’s attack. “Give it up.” he said pushing the sword hard on the pole hoping it would break. “You have the shard what more do you want!” she shouted, struggling to keep the pole up. “I want you guys to stop getting in my way.” he said withdrawing the sword. “I can’t do that.” Kairie said jumping out of the way of another blow from the sword Lana had gotten Ray pinned down to the ground, and was standing over him with her sword pointing down towards his heart. Ray grunted as he tried to pull away from Lana. “You’re kinda cute, too bad I’m gonna have to kill you now!” She laughed, an evil hoarse laugh. “I don’t think so precious.” he answered Using both legs to kick Lana off. “No, you’ll never win!” she hissed diving towards Ray. “uh, oh.” he moaned dodging a blow of darkness. He glanced at Gear who was unconscious on the forest floor, he was laying there it was pitiful and ray couldn’t stand it. When fighting, usually Gear hardly got scratched. He saw Gear’s bruised chin and bleeding lip, he felt melancholy. Ray saw Kairie fighting to save the life of the one she loved. “Kairie we can’t win this one!” Ray yelled fighting off Lana
