We landed in central and skidded to a halt. I went flying off the plane and rolled. I got up and ran over to the crack. Ed and Al followed me. I peered over the edge and saw the Heartless beginning to climb up the wall. The huge Neo Heartless, which I named the Alchemic Heartless, climbed out of the gate. It crawled up the wall and made it’s way towards the crack. I whipped around to the Elric brothers.
“Guys, go get help. Get Roy, Armstrong, anyone who can perform alchemy.”
Ed and Al looked at each other for a moment, then nodded. Al ran off while Ed stayed.
“Go Ed!”
“You think you can hold him off?”
“Better than a shorty like you.”
“WHO YOU CALLING A BITE SIZE BEAN SPROUT!” We paused for a moment, then laughed. Though the laughter didn’t last long, because the Alchemic Heartless swooped out of the hole and landed behind us.
“Let’s do it.” Ed said.
“Yeah, let’s party.” I replied. We ran off in opposite directions as the Heartless roared at us.
The Alchemic Heartless stomped after me. When it got close, it smashed it’s fists into the ground. I lunged out of the way, barely dodging it. I rolled and slapped my hands on the ground. I transmuted a huge fist that smashed the Heartless in the face. It fell to the ground, stunned. Ed and I transmuted a large wall over it and made it fall on it, pinning it.
“How do we stop it’s attacks?” Ed asked. I looked at it, then noticed it’s palms had transmutation circles.
“Transmute your arm and attack it’s palms!” I said, turning my arm into a blade. I ran up to it and slashed at the transmutation circle. It was nearly gone when the Heartless rose up and destroyed the wall. We backed away as it started smashing it’s hands on the ground, raising walls of spikes all around it. Ed was out of the ring of spikes, but I was stuck on it. I jumped up and slashed at the spikes, bouncing off of them and jumping from them to get away. I landed next to Ed. He must have noticed the transmutation circle on my hand.
“What’s that circle for?” he asked.
“I’ll show you.” I said, touching the seal. My hand lit on black fire, and I drove my palm at the Alchemic Heartless. The dark energy sent a huge wave of black flames at it, and tore up it’s body. The Alchemic Heartless roared at the pain and fell to the ground while Edward gawked at my power.
“It’s a long story. I’ll fill you in later.” I said to him. We ran up to the Heartless and destroyed the seal on it’s right hand. Suddenly the Heartless seized Edward and threw him into the air. I clapped my hands and shot myself into the air. I caught Ed and handed him my keyblade.
“Try to stab him in the head!” I shouted as I leaned forward and flew at the Heartless. I snapped my left hand and caused an explosion, while my right hand snapped and sliced it’s body. I landed in front of it when it looked up and caught a slash from the keyblade right across it’s head. Ed landed on his automail leg and stumbled, while I summoned the keyblade to my hand and jumped up to the Alchemic Heartless’s chest. I drive the blade through with my left hand, ripped it out, and shoved my right hand through. The DarkFire activated, and began to suck in the huge Heartless quickly. It roared in pain, but was too late.
I sucked it in and fell to the ground, when my hand glowed and shot something into the air. It exploded and sent black matter everywhere, which paused in the air and hung there before starting to collect. I looked around, and the world flashed to the world I saw when the Shikon Jewel was put together in Inuyasha’s world and where I acquired the summoning charm and transformation clothes. The matter finished collecting and shined a dark aura before floating down to me. I let it land in my right hand, and it was sucked inside the DarkFire seal. I felt the essence of a whip inside me, and when I threw my hand forward, a black beam with a very light purple aura flew out. It was a grapple beam. There was a flash, and I was back in Ed’s world.
“Mike,” Ed shouted running up to me, “are you ok!?”
“Fine, thanks.” I replied. Now I had another weapon in my arsenal. I looked in the distance and saw Roy, Al, and Winry running towards us. We waved to them happily. Just then I heard something strange. I turned around towards the crack and Heartless began flowing out of it. I clapped my hands and slammed them onto the ground, creating huge walls of earth that blocked their path out of the hole.
“Ed, the Heartless are flowing out of the hole!” I shouted to him. He whipped around right as the Heartless began to pour over the side of the wall, almost landing on us. I transmuted my right arm back into a blade and drew my keyblade in my left, beginning to hack them all down while Ed did the same. There were explosions that sent some Heartless flying. It was Roy. A Heartless jumped up behind Ed, but Al kicked it away, clapped his hands, and made the ground turn into spikes, dispatching a few Heartless. Just then I heard Winry’s scream.
Ed and I turned to see a Heartless on her back, trying to bite her. Ed ran to help her. I clapped my hands and threw them to the ground, screaming “ED!” a huge spike flew up just in front of him, and when it was in the air, Ed kicked it straight through the Heartless. He ran to Winry’s side while Roy, Al, and I hacked down the Heartless’s numbers. They kept pouring over, and every time we got rid of one, four more would take it’s place.
Al created a tornado and sucked up a huge amount of Heartless, in which I jumped into the center of the tornado and destroyed them by spinning my keyblade. Ed ran back.
“Roy, Al, get Winry somewhere safe!” They nodded and ran off.
“What about me?” I asked, hacking another Heartless down.
“I need you to help me lead them into the open so we can kill them quicker.” he said sternly.
“Geeze, you bark out orders like Roy.” I laughed, running to the open space not far ahead.
We got into the spot and began to kill the Heartless quicker. I felt a sensation like when the Nagakura’s and I destroyed the Heartless guarding the gate. I turned to Ed, and he must have felt it too. We through our hands into each others then smashed them into the ground. Rows of spikes came out of the ground, spiraling outward slowly, killing loads of Heartless. Ed clapped his hands and ran at me, in which I grabbed his foot and threw him high into the air. He came down and smashed his right hand into the ground, and huge fists popped up, destroying more Heartless. I did the same, but when I came down my arm was a blade, and I send huge spikes flying out of the ground. In a few moments, all the Heartless had been cleaned out.
We turned around when Winry tackled Ed, who blushed instantly.
“Ugh…Winry…” Ed struggled out, confused. Winry sat up…and kissed him. Meanwhile Roy, Al, and I just smiled.
After things settled down a bit, we ran into some more military personal that knew Roy. Jean was there and he came up to me.
“So, they’re about to give the State Alchemy Exam…you want in?”
“Hell yeah!” I shouted running off to central. He shouted something about studying first…but I was already gone.
I burst into the room, and there were a few people in there.
“What’s the meaning of this?” The guy behind the desk said.
“I’m…here to take…exam…” I panted out.
“I’m sorry, you’ll have to leave!” he shouted at me. Jean burst through the door, knocking me over.
“It’s alright Sergeant, he’s with me.” he said. The man walked up to a chair and smacked the paper down on the desk angrily before sitting back down. I jumped into the seat and began working as fast as possible. The questions were almost deadly, and when there were five minutes left, I had only half of it done. But I finished in time.
“Next comes the physical examination.” the man said.
Soon I was in front of the government. There was a golden chair with only three legs. In truth, it shouldn’t be standing…but I sat on it, and it was as sturdy as any chair.
“Ah, very good,” the man said, “but it says you have an automail arm? How did that happen?” If I told them it was human transmutation, they’d drop me on the spot.
“I was in a fire,” I said, “when I was little…and it was burned so badly I lost my arm.” Just a little more and they let me out. Them came the true test: showing our alchemic skills.
There was a huge field in the center of the building complex, open to the air.
“This is where you will show off your true alchemic might. There’s enough raw materials here to make anything.”
A man stepped forward, drew a circle, and created a miniature of Central. I head the people behind me say stuff like “Very nice detail, but too small.”
Another man stepped forward and made a really big tower, though it was tilted and sloppy in some places. He passed out instantly. “Very nice, though he passed out because he used too much energy.”
My turn was next. I stepped up when Heartless jumped out of a nearby tree. I clapped my hands and transmuted a few throwing knives and dispatched a few of them. I looked forward and saw a Neo Heartless with two transmutation circles on it’s hands: and Alchemic Neo Heartless. It threw itself onto the pillar and caused it to crack in the center. I charged to help the guy, but I wouldn’t make it. I threw my right glove to the ground and snapped at it. Dark alchemy flew over it, and then made it implode into nothingness. I threw my last dagger at the Heartless and snapped at the dagger. It went into the Heartless and exploded into flames, destroying the Heartless. I sat down, tired from all the energy I had used in one day.
The test ended a few minutes after that. I walked over Gracia’s house. Everyone was inside.
“How’d you do Mike?” Al asked. I passed out on the spot.
I woke up not that long later on a train. Al and Winry were across from me while Ed was next to me.
“Heh, look who decided to wake up.” Ed remarked
“Ed, you’re lucky I don’t hit people shorter than me.” I remarked back, stretching. Ed steamed at me. “What happened?”
“Well,” Al said, “we decided to go back to Risembool. You were still unconscious, so we dragged you along.”
“Yeah, you’re heavier than hell.” Ed said, trying to get revenge for the short joke.
“I only weigh more than you cause I’m taller.” I shot at him. He struggled to grab me while Winry held him back. I was still tired from all the energy I lost. This was going to be a long ride.
After a lot of fighting with Edward and a lot of blows from Winry, we arrived at Risembool. We walked towards Winry’s home, when I heard a dog bark and come running at us. It tackled Ed to the ground and nuzzled his face.
“Ugh, come on Den!” Ed laughed out. The dog got off of him and we walked back into the home.
“Guess who’s ba-aaack!” I said loudly, entering the homestead. Just then a huge sadow was cast over me as Armstrong lifted Ed, Al, and I into the air, squeezing us in a hug.
“OH THE ELRIC BROTHERS, YOU HAVE RETURNED HOME! GLORIOUS, GLORIOUS DAY THIS IS! AND MIKE IS SAFE TO, OH HOW WONDERFUL!” He cried loudly, the sounds of our cries for help and our backs cracking going unheard. He set us down when Pinako walked up.
“Welcome home boys.” she said smiling to the Elrics.
I stayed with them for a few days. I unloaded my story about my world, my magics, and all the wonders that were in my world. I also told them about my friends, my curse, and my father. I listened to all of their stories as well. The brother’s adventures, a war with the people on the other side of their gate, everything and anything in between.
One night I was outside, walking around the town when I ran into Ed. We walked together.
“So Mike,” Ed asked, “how’d you get that arm?”
“I…” I started to say. What if that was a bigger crime here than in my world. Only one way to find out. “I tried to bring a human back to life.”
Ed stopped walking. “I know, it was stupid…but I had no choice…” I was ashamed now…ashamed of the sinful taboo I committed long ago.
“That’s how I got my arm and leg.” Ed said. He had done it too!? So that would explain a lot.
“Who’d you try to bring back?”
“Mother, you?”
“Friend. Did it succeed?”
“Obviously not, you?”
“Nope, just made my life a living hell.”
“How so?”
“You saw my DarkFire alchemy. It’s a mixture of dark magic and alchemic fire. The power of it is so strong, that if I didn’t have the seal on my hand and used it, it could consume my whole body and everything around it. If I use it to suck someone into it, it pulls them into a place I call “The Abyss” and I can’t enter it unless if have enough power.”
“You have the Philosopher’s Stone now, don’t you?”
“Yeah…I think I’ll give it a try when I get back to my world.”
“Be careful.”
“No worries, I’m not about to die.” We made our way home and went to sleep.
The next morning there was a knock on the door. I threw my pants and shirt on and went to answer it. It was Roy.
“Roy…what are you doing here this early?” I said scratching the sand out of my eyes.
“Ah, if it isn’t Mike.” He said smiling, “I just received something from Central and I just had to deliver it myself.” He was holding an envelope.
“Really, lemme see.” I said swiping at it. He pulled it away from me, higher into the air.
“I don’t know, it may not be that important.” He said smiling wider.
“Oh come on!” I said, swiping at it multiple times. He waved it away from my hands each time. I jumped off the doorway and snatched it. “Ha ha, got cha.” I said, waving it in front of his face.
“Aren’t you going to read it?” Roy said, smiling again. I used alchemy and turned my right index finger into a small, thin blade, and with a quick swipe of my finger, the side of the letter was open. I turned my hand back to normal and read the card aloud.
“We of the State of Amestris, hereby dub thee Mike as a…certified State Alchemist! Are they serious?”
“Due to circumstances, we understand if he cannot be called to action at war time, but must show up eventually. Mike is hereby dub the title of Mike the “DarkFire Alchemist”!” I flipped out. I was officially a state alchemist. Ed, Al, and Winry came downstairs to see what the commotion was about.
“I’m a certified State Alchemist! Just like you Ed!” I shouted. We high-fived each other.
“Don’t forget about this.” Roy said, tossing me the State Alchemist pocket watch. I caught it in my right hand. It was beautiful.
“Way to go bud!” Ed said cheerfully. Just then the watch flashed. Everyone backed away when I was suddenly in the world that I was in when I unlocked my way home from Inuyasha’s world. I looked up and saw the pocket watch. I threw my keyblade forward and shot light out at the watch. It created another keyhole, unlocking the way home for me. This time the DarkFire talisman came out to me. I pocketed it to give to Ed later. I waited for something else to come out when I looked down and saw the pocket watch in my hand. I then noticed I was back in Ed’s world.
“What was that about?” Ed asked, surprised by the light.
“That was the signal for me to return to my world.” I said quietly. I remembered the talisman. “Here, use it to call me back if you ever need me.” I said smiling. I went to hand it to Ed, but gave it to Winry instead. Ed gave me an evil look. I put the watch on and stuffed it in my pocket. I looked out the doorway and saw the gate sitting on the side of the road. I shook Roy’s hand, hugged Winry, and walked towards the gate with Al and Ed.
“So Mike,” Ed asked, “before you leave, can I ask you something?”
“Shoot.” I said.
“You tried to bring someone back from the dead,” he recalled, “did you kill the homunculi?”
“Hom-what?”
“A homunculi…what’s created from a failed human transmutation?” Ed said. I didn’t know that.
“Uh, no. I didn’t know that happened?” I said, “How do you kill one?”
“A homunculus is weak when it’s around the remains of the one the person who created it tried to bring back to life.” Al explained, “They can usually regenerate, and the ones we met had special powers.”
“Ok, thanks guys. See you guys later!” I shouted, jumping through the gate. I turned back and saw everyone waving. It was nice to see that there was so much good in this one world.
I landed on my side of the gate. It was a long walk home, but it gave me time to think. I thought about all the burdens on my shoulders, and now that there was another thing that’s been running lose for years that I had just found out about, I didn’t know what to do. Do I hunt this “homunculus” or try to bring Calista back first? Whatever, Halloween was coming up, so I would bring Calista back after this greatest of days. But if I failed…would that give birth to a second homunculus? I didn’t care right now. I got home and went right to sleep, Roxas just staring at my arm, but thankfully letting me rest.

The cold silence of space only punctuates the feeling of death that emanates from this virtuously lifeless planet.
Only one thing is alive and well here...evil. And it must be destroyed, decimated, exterminated.
But first, it must be found...
