Well, tonight’s the night. Christmas Eve, and I’m about to take down the strongest vampire in Gaia: my own mother. Now she’s not my mother, she’s some vampire who has no memories of her love for me, due to her full vampire side and my half side. I put my desert eagles in their holsters, and spun the El Diablo into it’s holster, right above my right thigh. The other vampire hunters in a clan called D.E.S.U. were concerned for my safety. None of them had dared to even say about taking on the head vampire. Yet they were glad I was going to try.
I put my coat on and walked outside towards the mansion. The moon loomed over me as I jumped from tree to tree silently. I pulled out my desert eagles, the blessed silver bullets inside of them made me feel more powerful. I landed just in front of the mansion, the moon blocking out the features on the front in darkness. My left ear twitched at the sound to my right. I lifted my left arm and shot a vampire dead center in it’s head without even looking. The birds in the tree behind the mansion took off, their dark bodies making them look like bats in the night.
I walked up the steps slowly, then kicked open the door, brandishing both desert eagles. There were three vampires. I shot the two dead instantly, and the third lunged towards me. I used the Philosopher’s Stone to transmute my arm to a blade without clapping, and sliced it’s head off. The body and head rolled across the floor and stopped. A dozen vampires burst through the doors in the long main hallway, and I dismissed half with my desert eagles, the other half with my blade.
I took the lower route into the basement. It was dark and humid, the floor having the occasional blood stain on it. There were cages across all the walls, some with bones in it, and some with the partially rotted corpse. I nearly vomited at the sight of that, but kept on. I reached a large room that had barely any light in it at all, cages all around the surrounding area. I was in a large circular room after a bit of walking. There was a cage in the center, and what looked like magma inside it. Suddenly the bars behind me closed, a loud clanking sound ringing through the room as they slammed onto the ground.
“So…you’re the one who’s trying to exterminate us.” a voiced called through the darkness. I saw the face of a male vampire. He looked at me, almost with delight, then with confusion. “Hold on, you’re the one who was fighting the werepire, weren’t you!”
I nodded yes, smiling.
“Urgh, I should have drained you when I had the chance.”
“Well, too bad I’m going to have to put you down.” I said, spinning the gun slightly. He laughed at me.
“Please, I am one of the elite, one of the four vampires gifted with dark powers. You couldn’t beat me if you were a full vampire, halfling.”
“And you’re power is what? A super high ego?”
He laughed again. “No…I can become one with the darkness.” With that said, he blended away into the room. I felt something tear at my right arm and grabbed for it, but it disappeared in my grasp.
“That’s odd,” his voice said, ringing from all directions, “you’re arm should have been crushed…it’s almost like it’s metal.”
“Bravo Einstein,” I shouted at the dark, “want a medal?” I suddenly felt a wind current moving. I brought my right arm behind me and deflected the razor sharp claws of the vampire. In an instant, he was gone. How could I beat something I couldn’t see?
“Are you afraid? Do you fear me?” he said, mocking me with the sound of his voice.
“Least I’ll come out of here alive.” I said to him, unknowingly backing up into a cage. The cage was lit by red lights above it. I stood there and peered into the darkness. I caught a moving shape, and then caught the claws of the vampire as he lunged out of the darkness. I pulled him in and socked him across the face, but he kicked me away and disappeared again.
That’s when I got an idea. I threw myself into the darkness and braced myself on the floor, flat on the ground, out of sight. I felt him moving. I smashed my hand on the ground and made the magma inside the center of the arena flare up, lighting up the room. He disappeared into a corner, and while he was covering himself from the heat, I had transmuted a statue of me in one of the cells. The magma went back down, and he noticed what he thought was me. He swirled around the dark room like a long shadow, then dove into the cell as he vaporized the center of the statue.
“What in the-!?” but it was too late. I had slammed the cage down, trapping his movements and locking him inside the cell. He growled at me angrily.
“Let’s see you disappear now!” I said, mocking him. He struck out at me, but I dodged it easily. “See you in Hell.” I spun my keyblade out and the front end lit up like when I unlocked a new world. I lifted it into the air, and shot it straight through his heart. He let out a loud shrieking sound before he turned to dust. The door ahead slid open, allowing me passage to the next trial ahead. Another long dark corridor later, and I was in a super tall room.
The walls were lined with spikes on some spots. There were four grates in each corner of the room. I figured I’d have to climb up and jump off the wall to the next to get to the top, which was a long way up. The wall behind me was completely filled with spikes. That’s when I heard something go “Cha-chung”. Some gear had kicked in, and I noticed more magma pouring out of the cages at the corners of the room. I couldn’t reach the wall to climb, so I leaped up and climbed up the spike wall with my automail arm and boots. I dare not touch them with my left hand, they were razor sharp and tore my glove open instantly. The magma was catching up when I leaped straight up and landed on the platform to the next room. The door was sealed, there would be no way in the next room…or out of this one filling with magma!
I looked around, there was nothing I could do to stop it. I looked down, and it was just a few feet away. In a minute, it would be up to my knees…if I had any left by then. I did the last thing I could do: slammed my right hand on the wall next to me and try to contain the flow with alchemy. I lifted the platform in front of me into a wall. The lava surpassed it right after I did that. The wall was working well…till I noticed the lava was seeping through. I made another wall in front of it, and another, and even another, till I was stuck against the door and wall. I felt it growing extremely hot and figured this was the end, when something occurred to me. Why didn’t I just transmute the door? I would have smacked myself if I had enough room, and transmuted the door away, then ran past it as fast as I could. It was another long corridor. I looked back to see the wall turning orange, and took off just as the lava seeped through the bottom.
I bolted as fast as I could, the lava nearly at my heels. I put my Ray armor on and blasted through the small room. There was something ahead, and when I went through it, the interference made my visor go all snowy. I took the armor off fast and nearly hit the wall. I kept running, then saw there was a huge drop ahead and a rope. I lunged and grabbed the rope, which pulled a huge boulder above down. I slammed into the wall and pulled myself close as the boulder fell past me and the lava poured down, just missing me. I began my ascent climbing.
I pulled myself up when I reached the top, panting from the effort I put into climbing. I wiped my sweat off and walked into a huge room, larger than the last room where I fought the vampire. The floors seemed almost hollow. Suddenly, all the square tiles began shooting up erratically. I dodged a few and had to jump off the occasional one, when I suddenly heard a voice.
“So, we meet again, Michael.” the voice said loudly. My spine froze. I had heard that voice before, on the worse day of my life: the day I was turned into a half vampire.
“You…” I mutter loudly, looking across the rooms as one of the tiles came back down and revealed the vampire, “you’re the one who turned me so long ago.”
“Ah…you’re memory still serves you.” he said eerily. “Please, allow me to battle you, and to do what I meant to do so long ago,” his eyes flashed up at me, “drain you of all your blood.” With that, he leapt out at me. I dodged him but ran into a tile. He swung at me, and I just ducked under it, his claws getting stuck in the tile. When it came down, he flew to the floor. I promptly picked him up and roundhouse kicked him into another, then smashed my shoulder into his chest. He fell to the ground, then dove up and uppercut me into the air. I spun, but he grabbed my leg and slammed me into another tile, then straight down on my face. He then swung me back and forth in between two tiles, when I pulled myself up to him and kicked him in the face. He stumbled back, and I grabbed his collar and began slamming my right hand into his stomach, trying to go under his ribcage and hit his heart. I gave up and gave him a right jab to the rips, a knee to the chin, an uppercut, and to top it off, the classic double kick, and sent him into the wall.
He stumbled up. “That’s it,” he said, taking his cape off, “no more fooling around.”
“Alright then, more fun for me!” I shouted, taking off after him. That’s when the floor panels around me began to shoot up. I was surrounded in a box formation, and he shot one down and attacked me ruthlessly. I went after him again, and the same thing happened.
“Cheap shot!” I cried. He lowered another tile, but this time I dodged it, only to get slammed almost into the ceiling from a rising box. I hit the ground when he slammed his foot into me, knocking me to the ground. He leaped on top of me and began to kick and punch my torso. I snapped my left hand and covered my face as there was an explosion that engulfed both of us in flames. He leaped back unharmed and the boxes surrounded me again.
“Fine, let’s play dirty then you b*****d.” I said as my Tessaiga keyblade came out. I lifted it up, and the box behind me came down. I slashed it and used the Wind Scar, slicing through the vampire’s clothing, but leaving him unharmed. He rose up a wall of boxes, but a Wind Scar took them down.
“Are you so weak that you have to revert to using otherworldly weaponry!” he shouted.
“Fine!” I shouted at him clapping my hands, “I’ll use my OWN!” My arm turned into a blade and took off at him. A box rose up in front of me, but I slashed it down doing a front flip and landed on top of the vampire.
“SEE YOU IN HELL!!!” I shouted as I began to thrust my blade through his abdomen multiple times. I then smashed my blade through a box and rose the one he was on into the air, smashing him in between the ceiling and the tile. I leaped up, slashing my blade through the box, and used my DarkFire to shoot a wave of darkness up at him. It exploded as it hit him, and I landed with my arm back to normal as the chunks of rock hit the ground. I walked through the doorway just as the whole room caved in.
This time it was a long dark corridor without traps. I arrived in what looked to be a huge coliseum with gigantic chains hanging down from the ceiling. The floor was almost completely stained red. There were three levels up, all of it filled with cheering vampires. In the center in front of me, was Megan and my mother. I turned my arm into a blade as I stepped up to a white line.
“We’re glad you could join us son.” my mother said. Her lips were red, either from lipstick or blood.
“Shut up.” I shot back instantly, my voice colder than ice.
“Is that any way to speak to your wife.” Megan said.
“I said shut UP!” I shouted louder, getting into a fighting stance. The vampires in the stands went nuts.
“Megan, take care of my son. If he won’t become a full vampire…make sure he’s dead.” my mother said as she started walking away.
“I’m not letting you get away!” I shouted going after my mother. I almost had her when Megan tripped me and kicked me to the ground.
I staggered back up. “Get out of my way Megan.” I growled out, “I don’t want to kill you.” She smiled then kicked me into the air before trying to give me a roundhouse kick. I grabbed her leg and threw her across the arena. She landed perfectly and ran at me. I blocked her claws and kicked her away. She dug her claws into the ground and tackled me onto my back, pinning me down. She smiled, and still looked beautiful to this day.
“Have you missed me?” she whispered quietly, her lips just barely missing mine. I let my body go weak, then tightened up and kicked her off of me.
“Does that answer your question?” I said smugly as I flipped up. She rolled across the ground and then stood up straight.
She turned to the crowd. “Hey, you, my weapon?” she said, pointing to a vampire. He threw her a sword. When she touched it, it turned black and ridged on the bladed side. The handle was blood red, and the shine of it was also red.
“This is the Blade of the Vampire,” she spoke softly, “it’s ability is to drain the strength out of each strike from the enemy and transfer it to the wielder-”
“Enough talk!” I shouted, my keyblade coming out as I lunged at her. I struck her blade, and felt like my strength was just sapped out of me. I leaped back, weary to take another strike.
She sighed. “You were always suck a dolt.” she said before she charged me. I blocked her attacks, and after the first attack, I felt as if my strength had completely come back. Perhaps since I was a vampire, I would get strength back if I blocked her attacks. Her relentless strikes said she didn’t know that. I smiled, knowing now was the time to trick her. I began to strike back with all of my strength, losing great portions of it with each block she made. I finally collapsed with exhaustion.
“Farewell Michael!” she shouted as she put all her strength into one last blow. I blocked it, then felt even more strength that I lost flow back into me. I leaped up and shattered the blade with a single stroke of my sword. She just stood there, stunned, as the small black pieces of the blade drifted past her. The crowd was in an uproar. Megan just collapsed.
I walked up to her and put my sword away, making the crowd boo with disappointment. “Why…why don’t you just finish me off now.” Megan muttered to me.
“You’re still my ex, and I will protect anyone I felt love for. THAT is why I won’t kill you.” I said starting to walk away. Just then all the vampires leaped into the arena after me.
Megan laughed. “This isn’t over!” she cried, “We’ll take your head!” Just then, she was sucker punched from behind, the vampire doing it saying, “You’ll pay for that failure!” That was all he said, because I took his head off with my bladed arm. I transmuted it back and stood above Megan, placing my hand on my DarkFire seal. She woke up and looked at me defending her. I created a small aura around myself, and then used it to shoot out energy, disintegrating any vampire hit by it. In an instant, they were gone.
I collapsed to my knees from exhaustion. Megan came up to me and held me up. “You ok?”
“Why should you care.” I panted out. She tried to kill me, why would she care.
“Look, you saved me, it’s the least I can do.” We sat there quietly for a moment. Then Megan pulled her hair back, her neck being uncovered from it. “Here, suck out my blood.”
“WHAT!?” I screamed. Did she just ask me to suck on her neck!?
“Not like that! You’re part vampire, it will give you strength to fight.” she said, leaning closer. I thought about it. I still had my mother to face, and she would be the toughest of them all. And after three fights and releasing most of my energy all at once, I was asking to pass out from exhaustion. I slowly leaned in and placed my lips on her neck before sinking my fangs in and drinking her blood for a few moments.
I leaned back and wiped the blood off my lips. I wasn’t too proud on the whole blood sucking part of vampirism, though it was a good way to get quick energy. The small holes on her neck stopped bleeding almost immediately. I stood up, revitalized. Her blood was quite good.
“Thanks.” I said to her, starting to walk into the next room.
“Mike?”
“Yeah?”
“…I wasn’t turned willingly…I was gotten when I was off guard and she used me for a puppet…I just wanted to see you one last time.” I turned to say something, but she had already gone. I walked into the next room.
This corridor was different. It reeked of blood. I looked at the ground and saw that there was a small stream of it running in between the cracks of the stone floor. I nearly lost my stomach at the sight. I walked further into a smaller room There was a large sphere on the back of the wall, seeming to have huge amounts of blood inside of it. It had small “veins” that extended out and across the walls. There was a large throne in the center with the same veins. On top of that throne, was my mother.
“So, you’ve come all this way just to meet your maker? Ironic that it’s the same person who gave you life in the first place.” she said.
“You’re not the same mother,” I said to her sternly, “you’re just some vampire that looks like her.”
“No Michael, I am her. I have memories, like when you were six and you tried to read a book upside-down. Or when you were just a small child, and I rocked you in my arms to make you fall asleep.”
“Then why,” I said to her, feeling tear in my eyes, “why attack and kill so many innocent people! Humans, elves, this is a mixture of their blood flowing through the walls and floor! You used to care for any species that would get hurt! Why have you changed!”
“Because, I have power now.” she said towards me, looking very serious. Just then a crazed smile slid across her face. “Although, it may also have something to do with that weird creature I drained!”
“What…creature?” I asked, scared of the answer.
“Well you see,” she said, sounding like a teenage eager to talk, “I was in the city, looking for some prey a long, long time ago. I saw this building called BioTech, and snuck in. This creature attacked me, and when I drained it, I could feel it’s emotions too! It drove me insane, and now all I want is to see others suffer at my hands!” she said, laughing like a lunatic afterwards.
“You’re…you’re not my mother.” I said quietly, backing away slowly. I was horrified now. My mother was still alive, but one of the BioTech freaks had control over her. The doorway out slammed shut. I began to panic.
“Farewell, my son!” she shouted as she ripped a lever on the throne down. The floor beneath me shook and crumbled away as I fell down a huge chasm. I went to touch the wall, and when I did, I felt something wet. I had forgotten the walls were lined with blood. That’s when I remembered I could use my DarkFire as a grapple. I touched the seal and shot my hand at the disappearing ceiling. The black beam shot out and stuck instantly, and I ripcord my self up onto the room my mother was in again. I ripped my beam back and pulled one of the bricks loose, hurtling it at my mother. She stopped it with her bare hands, not even moving at the hard impact, and shattered it with a twitch of her fingers. She was devilishly strong.
She pulled a blade from the top of the throne. The hilt was made of stone, and the blade was blood red, either from battle or forged that way. “What do you think?” she asked me, “Think you can kill your own mother?”
“AND THEN SOME!” I screamed back, dashing at her. I leaped over a swing of her blade and parried a strike from her claws, delivering a backhand to her face with my right hand. I landed and she swung her blade. I barely deflected it with my right arm, but she grabbed my collar and whipped me across the room. I had my keyblade out when I landed on my back and blocked a downward strike from her blade. She spun through the air and landed right as I flipped up. She tried to stab me from behind, but I blocked it and counterattacked. She dodged it before striking me, which hit my right arm, and I swung at her, slicing her torso open.
“Urgh, you ungrateful BRAT!” she shouted. She jumped over me to the throne and poured her hand into the vein of blood. She then licked it clean almost instantly. Her wound healed at the same time. “Much better.” she said as she began to laugh at my horrified face, “You know you can’t beat me when I can regenerate!”
I wasn’t paying attention and she tore open my left side. I realized now what was truly at stake. I could die here and now, and who would fight off the Heartless? Who would destroy the Federation? Who would protect my friends? But what about my other half, Roxas? And Zero? Zero can’t exist without me, and would Roxas fade away? No…I wasn’t about to let that happen.
She thought I was still lost in thought and tried to stab me, but I deflected the shot and sliced her open all the way down her body, leaving a huge gash that burst into blood. I was now by the throne.
“You’re right…I might not be able to kill you,” I said, dipping my hand into the blood, “but you can’t kill me either.” I licked my hand and was rejuvenated. My wound closed, and my energy was back. I didn’t like drinking blood, but I needed to survive still.
She laughed at me. “So, this is how it’s going to go? Two beings, locked in battle for all of eternity? There’s enough blood here to last for decades. It would take a horde of millions of vampires to drain it in less than a year. So…you still think you can beat me?”
I clapped my hands and placed them on the throne. The veins seeped in the stone and disappeared far below the surface, as did the ones in the wall. She looked at me, stunned that all the blood she had collected was now gone. I looked up through my hair at her, quietly saying “Eternity just got a lot shorter.” She just growled and dashed at me with her blade, restarting our battle.
I blocked a downward thrust and swung at her with my full force. She dodged it with ease. Now that she couldn’t regenerate, there was no way she would dare take an attack. We traded off, attacking then blocking, until we finally realized it was a stalemate.
“You can’t beat me son,” she said mocking me, “I’m too powerful!”
“Maybe you are,” I said, aiming the tip of my blade at her heart, “but you are not my mother!” A beam shot out and pierced her heart, unlocking her old soul. She collapsed to the ground, then looked up at me. The gleam in her eyes brought me back to when I was younger and she was still alive.
“W-what happened to me?” she said, horrified that her hands had blood on them.
“Mother…” was all I could whisper out. She looked at me, confused. “It’s me mom…Mike.”
“Mike? But…that’s not possible. My Michael is only six years old?” she said, now afraid of me. She must not have been able to control herself, so she believed she was still back when she was turned.
“Mom…my dad left us when I was young. I used to practice alchemy.” I said, hoping it would jog her memory. She still wasn’t sure. “Dad had this keyblade in the back room, and I was supposed to get it when I was fifteen.” I said, holding the Dark Demon Slayer keyblade up at her. She then believed me.
“But…what happened to me?” she asked. She could feel the fangs in her mouth.
“You were turned into a vampire, and you lost your mind, killing countless humans and elves.” I said quietly, the truth hurting every bone in my body. She just stared at me, stunned. “Dad told me that to stop you, I have…” I couldn’t say it.
“Have to what dear?” The “dear” struck my heart like an arrow.
“He said I have to kill you.” I said quickly. I felt tears in my eyes. My mother was back, she could live again…and now I was going to kill her. She suddenly screamed in pain.
“Son…I can feel it…the other thing inside me is trying to get back out.” she said, clutching her chest. “I’ll probably come after you.” I started to cry. “Please son…don’t be sad. Just grant me my last request…”
I nodded.
“Please…finish me off before I hurt someone else.” she looked up at me and smiled. “Remember, your mother still loves you.” Then she screamed, and when she looked at me again, the gleam in her eyes were gone.
She laughed at me, a very horrid feeling in her voice. “That was entertaining, wasn’t it? So, what do you plan on doing now?” she said, smiling widely. I pulled both my desert eagles out, as well as the El Diablo.
“What I’m going to do now,” I said, tossing the El Diablo into the air, “if fulfill my mother’s wish and kill you!” I spun the desert eagles, and used the Philosopher’s Stone to start an alchemic reaction. I smashed the pistols together as the El Diablo landed on the top. It turned into the Cerberus, and I spun it far out to my side, then in front of me, before locking it forward, pointed right for my mother’s head.
She began to laugh. “Do you remember how I said I was once a freak in Biotech?” she said. I guessed the creature now had full control over her mind. “You see, I was made to be able to control the thoughts of others, make their bodies move the way I wanted them to. When your mother stupidly wandered in, I attacked her and died. But when she drank my blood, I was reborn in her. She was so weak, so fragile, I crushed her will-” she picked up a rock and crushed it in her palm, “like that.”
“Shut up…” I said sternly. I didn’t notice my hand was shaking.
“Although I do hate this female body. It’s only good for luring men along. I would have preferred a stronger body, like that of a man.” That’s when I pulled the trigger. The three bullets inside flew out of it and just blew off a chunk of her shoulder. She hissed at me before lunging at me. I took another shot, but she dodged it. I barely dodged her claws.
“Here, take some blood, then I can control your body too!” she shouted, throwing blood at me. I blocked it and fired another shot. It took out her leg. She fell to the ground screaming. I stepped on her wrist and pointed the barrel of the gun at her head. Tears were streaming down my face.
“No, Michael, wait! It’s me, your mother! Please stop!” she cried, sounding like my mother exactly. I looked at her eyes.
There was no gleam, and her eyes faded after I pulled the trigger at her chest, taking out her whole heart. I sat there in the throne for a good long while. I was now not only the king of the vampires for killing their leader, but I had also killed my very own mother. For what reason did I have to live. Then I realized something. There were still Heartless in countless worlds. I would have to get rid of all of them before I could lose a reason to live.
I stood up and looked around. There were no vampires left in this complex, and all who came would probably seek me out, since although I was now technically their king, they’d never let a halfling rule over them. I clapped my hands and placed them on the ground, using a large portion of my energy to weaken the walls of the entire complex. I then made a large hole up to the surface and used the floor to shoot myself up and out of the ground. I was in the center of the forest. This was how they were able to get all of their so called “prey” to the mansion underground quickly.
I walked over to the cliffside I used to sit on. I climbed up the tree there and looked out over Gaia. The people who lived there could now live in peace, without worry of being dragged out of their house at night as food. A small white fluff landed on my nose, making it cold. A snowflake? I looked overhead and saw the snow beginning to come down. The sky over the horizon was getting lighter, and by the size of the snowflakes, it would cover the ground nicely by morning. For today was Christmas, and although I lost my mother, I still had my friends.
