Twilight Town. At first I thought it was going to be boring, being separated from my friends, but in reality, I just made more. Hayner, Pence, and Olette are extremely nice and generous, when Hayner isn’t ranting on about Seifer. Seifer is Hayner’s rival. Somehow, he finds the exact buttons to push, and Hayner always rants on to us about how he’s so much better and Seifer’s words don’t affect him. Of coarse, I can’t help but smile at the lie.
The giant clock in the center of Twilight Town is great. We go to the top every day right as the sunsets, and it’s beautiful. We leave a good time before the bells sound, since it’s very, very loud. We sit at the top as they talk about summer break coming up and about the odd jobs in towns, and Hayner rants about Seifer. They also gave me a treat which is incredibly good. It’s called “Sea-Salt Ice Cream”. It’s a light blue ice cream bar that is salty, yet sweet, and also very refreshing.
Hayner has also been training me for a tournament known as “Struggle”. It’s a game where the combatants have these blue clubs, and they knock orbs off the of their opponent‘s protective helmet and vest. He says I’m a natural, though not as good as him, even though the record is still five to two, with me winning. Apparently someone named Setzer holds the championship belt. Seifer is also going for it, so it looks like Hayner’s using me for training.
Tomorrow is the tournament, and we’re back on top of the clock tower. Olette handed out ice cream, and once again, my mind has turned back to Roxas.
“What’s on your mind Mike?” Olette asked sweetly.
I paused, thinking on what to say. “Just thinking about my friend.”
“I’m sure you’ll find him.” Pence said, taking a chop out of his ice cream bar.
“You should be thinking about the tournament,” Hayner said, biting of the corner of his ice cream. He didn’t even pause to chew, saying in a muffled voice “it is tomorrow after all.”
“Yeah, and I’m taking home the trophy after I win.” I said, sticking the bar into my mouth.
“Either way, we split the prize, right?”
“Yeah, you guys still have to show me the beach you have here.” I said after I pulled the bar from my mouth. A small blue drop fell down the tower and out of sight. We figured that for us to go, it would cost a good three or four thousand “munny”, the currency of this world. We were also planning on buy some food there, so that would be another couple thousand munny, and with the odd jobs we all were doing and the tournament paying a whopping ten thousand munny, we would be set.
“Eeek!” Olette screamed. I nearly fell of the tower.
“What’s wrong?” I said panicked.
“We gotta get down now, the bells should chime any minute!” We all jumped up and bolted for the door down. I hit one of the last turns too sharply and lost my balance. They had reached the door and turned around, right as I was regaining my balance near the edge. That’s when the bells tolled loudly.
*BOOOOOOOONG…BOOOOOOOONG…BOOOOOOOONG* We grabbed our ears, the loudness hurting our very body. My sense of hearing was still very acute, so I was feeling like I was hit with a sledgehammer. I staggered as my vision blurred from pain. I took a step back, but hit my heel on the rim of the tower and started falling back. I tried to get balanced, but since my ears were in so much pain, I couldn’t. The gang watched me fall back, grabbing at some unknown object for stability, but without success. I felt my foot go into the air, and I fell off the tower.
I was falling when it occurred to me. Perhaps I could try a shot at alchemy. But that would be dangerous, as this was a completely foreign world. I tried to snap with my right hand, but no luck. Neither did clapping my hands. Something was about to go very wrong as I saw the ground below. I summoned the keyblade, and I thought of my friends from the other world, thinking what they would do. Ed…Inuyasha…how would they escape this fate.
Just then I felt something resonate inside me. My clothes glowed red and I transformed instantly. I was wearing the same clothes as Inuyasha, even his sacred beads. My hair was also very long, but brown. My ears, and become that of the dog demon himself, planted firmly on top of my head. My hands were clawed, and I had fangs as well. The keyblade turned into the Tessaiga keyblade, and I felt a huge surge of power flow into my body. I put the blade in its scabbard on my side, and landed on my hands and feet, the ground below quivering. I reverted back to my normal clothes as my keyblade went with them, and just sat there silently.
Hayner and the rest came down the stairs, panting a sigh of relief at the sign I wasn’t dead.
“How…how did you survive that fall?” Hayner said. My hair was covering my face. Olette bent down to try to see it, but I whipped my head up, my hair going up, showing the smile on my face.
“I had a little help…from my friends. I looked up at the sky as the sun disappeared and the stars came out. I went back to the usual spot and fell asleep on their couch.
The morning came fast. I was up and about instantly when I heard the morning tune ring out through the town. I stretched and grabbed the struggle weapon, swinging it playfully. I was gonna win, I was sure of it. No sooner did I leave the usual spot, the gang rushed up to me.
“You ready to go Mike?” Hayner said smiling.
“Ready as I’ll ever be.” I said, tossing the struggle weapon into the air and catching it. We raced off to the sandlot. Inside I knew I’d never forget running like that. Hayner tried to show off by jumping down a whole flight of stairs. I got him back by grinding down the railing with the sole of my shoes.
“Careful guys, you don’t want to get hurt before the match.” Olette said. She was the sensitive one out of all of us.
When we got to the sandlot, it was crowded to the brim with people. There were people on the rooftops watching the action. We walked up to the tournament board to check our positions. We were on opposite sides of the block.
“Aw, looks like I don’t get to beat you early.” I said to Hayner, smiling wildly.
“No, I just get to beat you later.”
“I’ll beat you both if you don’t get out of my way.” someone said, pushing us both aside. It was Seifer.
“What’s your problem Seifer!?” Hayner went off. I held him back.
“You losers are nothing. This will be the easiest tournament with you in the ranks.” Hayner was ready to lunge at him.
“Calm down, you’ll clobber him when the time comes.” Pence said. Hayner just gave a small growl and backed down as Seifer walked away.
The first couple of matches went by quickly, mostly because the townsfolk didn’t train much. In all, I only lost one orb because it wasn’t stuck on correctly. The battles began to get harder, but we had already hit the preliminary matches by then. Four matches, then a semi-final, then the winner would be decided and the challenger for Setzer would also go on. One lucky storeowner would go against Hayner, and yours truly would be against Seifer. Hayner pulled off his match with some difficulty, but still won. I walked onto the stage and got set to struggle when Seifer did the same. We stood there, ready to fight when he started trash talking.
“Ready to lose?” He said as the starting bell dinged.
“You first!” I said, lunging out at him. He dodged my attack and knocked three orbs off of my side. I hit the ground on my hand and pulled myself back at him. I delivered a blow to his chest and took five orbs off of him, while he hit my head and knocked off another three. He tried to hit me with a downward slash, but I blocked it and countered, taking off a huge eight orbs. He had two left, and knocked me in the side, then the back. My final orb flew high into the air. The match wouldn’t be called till it hit the ground. I leaped up and caught it on my head, knocking one the last two of Seifer’s off. He went to catch the last one, but I landed and sprung at him, slamming the orb all the way over the buildings and outta the match.
“Mike is the winner!” the announcer cried. The crowd was shouting my name. I felt so happy.
Seifer just sat on the ground, saying over and over, “How, how could I lose to that punk!“ They attached more orbs and suited Hayner up. We took off after one another. He read my moves and knocked off almost all my orbs with a spin attack. I hit the ground and rolled back up, accidentally losing an orb. I jumped at him and swung full force, sending him across the ring. He handed anticipated that move. His orb count fell to a mere three, while I had two. I took off at him, and leaped straight forward. I didn’t realize till it was too late that my orbs were on the top of my helmet. I got in close, and just when I could have taken off his orbs, he smashed mine to the ground, along with me. I slid off the ring, smiling from defeat. I had so much fun, I didn’t even think about losing. I had one orb left, but Hayner won since I fell out of the ring.
The match with Setzer was good, and in the end, we wound up on top of the Twilight tower eating sea-salt ice cream, Hayner showing off his new championship belt and trophy. That’s when I felt Roxas’s presence.
“What’s wrong Mike?” Pence asked, looking confused by my sudden dash towards the door.
“I think it’s time to go back to my world.” I replied. They all stood up, looking sad. “Hey, no long faces!” I said, walking up to each one of them and playing with their face to make them smile, “It’s not goodbye forever, I’ll come back as much as I can!”
“But…what about the beach?” Olette asked. I thought for a moment.
“Eat a watermelon, no, two for me, kay?” I said smiling. They all cheered up.
I got ready to go on my way after I said goodbye to my friends. I ran towards my feeling of Roxas, knowing he was nearby. I hit a corner a little to hard and smashed into someone. I got up apologizing when I noticed it was Roxas.
“Roxas! Where the hell have you been!” I shouted, amazed to see him.
“Where have I been? WHERE HAVE I BEEN!? I’ve been busting my a** to get here! I was stuck at some beach, at they wouldn’t let me back if I didn’t have any money!” I laughed at the irony, thinking I could have bumped into him if we all went there. “What have you been doing Mike?”
Lie. “I was searching all over to find you!” He didn’t look like he believed me.
“So…how do we get out of this world?” he asked.
“Hell if I know.”
“What!? But you’ve been to worlds, how did you get out of those!”
“Well,” I said, recalling my adventures, “I had to beat up something big, or find an important item in that world. Then I would be allowed to unlock the world and come back.”
‘So did you find anything then?”
“Nothing at all.” We both sighed at the same time. That’s when my DarkFire seal glowed white.
“What the-” and suddenly, we were in the world I was telling Roxas about. But there was nothing to unlock, nothing to open a door to. That’s when I realized what I had to do.
“Stay back.” I said to Roxas. He backed up a little bit. I used my DarkFire alchemy to open a portal, and it turned into the Kingdom Hearts’ gate that was in our world.
“What just happened?” Roxas asked nervously.
“This world, this Kingdom Hearts, is now connected to ours.” I replied to him, “We can come here whenever we please now.”
“Well let’s just go.” Roxas said, starting to walk towards the gate. I walked out first, and in a flash, we were back at our world. I reached up at my ears and felt my old elven pointed ears, and my fangs were also back. I lifted my right hand, and sure enough, the gleam of automail bounced off of it. The DarkFire seal was engraved in the back of my hand as well. The gate behind us stopped shimmering, and No Man’s land was without light again. I looked up to see my dad, his eyes wide with what seemed to be happiness. I drew one pistol and summoned the Dark Kingdom Key.
“Who’s that?” Roxas asked, his keyblades out as well.
“A welcome wagon that’s simply to die for.” I said, the pun holding in the air.
“Son,” my father spoke softly, “you finally got it. You finally got the keyblade.”
“I’ve had it for some time…I’ve used it to fight you!” I shouted at him, ready to slice him in half. He stared at me confused.
“Son…I haven’t seen you since you were a small boy.”
“Don’t try to fool me old man!” I shouted, running up to him. I brought my blade up and lunged into the air. He froze, trying to move, and fell down. He put his arms up to shield himself, and when I landed, my blade was right by his arms, not touching him.
My keyblade disappeared from my hands, and I picked the guy up by his collar. “Who are you old man…” I said sternly.
“I’m your father!” he cried as he grabbed my arm, pulling himself up. I held him there and looked into his eyes. In them, I could see part of myself.
“What a weakling.”
I turned to the voice in the forest. Out walked my other father, the one I had fought twice before. He walked out, this time with a thicker blade. He pulled it out, and it lit on fire again. I put my real father down.
“Whoever you are…stand back.” I said, my keyblade coming back out. He backed away. Roxas came up to me, but I shook my head at him. “This is my fight.”
“So,” the imposter said to me, “you think this guy is your father?” I said nothing. “Well, if he’s your father, then who am I!” He lunged at me suddenly, catching me off guard. I barely blocked his strike, and sent myself back a few feet, out of harms way.
“Prepare yourself for this then!” He shouted at me. His cloak stretched back, and then shot straight at me. It wrapped around my keyblade and pulled it from my hands. I tried to summon it back…but couldn’t.
“Mike, try to summon the Dark Demon Slayer keyblade!” my father said.
“I can’t, it transformed!”
“No, not that one,” he spoke softer, “the keyblade that is your heart, bring it forth!”
I held my hand forward. I only had one keyblade, and I couldn’t bring forth another that didn’t exist! The imposter charged at me again. I held my hand forward and concentrated. I felt something swirling inside. The imposter swung his blade down, and was shot backwards, a hundred yards or so, due to the black aura around the Dark Demon Slayer keyblade. It looked nearly exactly like the old one, except that this one had darker black in the center and platinum around the outside blade. The key chain was also platinum, and it gave out an aura that could kill alone.
“Get ready you imposter…it’s time to die…” I said, spinning the blade then pulling it to my side.
We dove at each other. Swing after swing, our attacks ricocheted off of each other’s blades, then the other countered, and the cycle of attacks continued. I finally landed a blow, and thus started my attack run. Slices, jabs, everything didn’t matter, he regenerated after all of them. He hit me once, but I dismissed the blow, got behind him, and stabbed him right through his heart. I stood there for a moment, savoring the victory, then pulled the blade back out. He stood there, then literally, grew wings and flew away. I stood there, stunned. He stopped in mid air and turned to me. His whole body glowed, and he looked a lot different, with long silver hair that had one bang that was in front of his left eye.
This is my true form…and next we meet…you will die.” He said, flying away. He looked almost like Sean, my best friend who I tried to bring back so long ago. But how could that be possible?
“Son,” the voice called from behind. I turned around to my father. “I’m sorry for what I did, leaving you and your mother so many years ago, but please, accept my last offering.” he said, handing me a box. I opened it, and inside was a jet-black revolver and it‘s holster.
“What’s this for?” I said, picking it up and twirling it on my finger a few times.
“That pistol is known as El Diablo, the pistol of Satan. In another world, there is a gun called Cerberus that has three barrels. It is the most powerful pistol known to ever exist throughout the cosmos. If you combine this with your current weapons, you can create that pistol.” I pressed the button for the Fenrir. “This is the gun you must use to slay your mother.”
“W-what!?” I shouted. How did he know I was planning on doing that?
“Yes, for you see, to kill a regular vampire, you must stake them with wood. That wood would need to be soaked in holy water. However, nothing like that can hurt an elf, and yet, darkness can destroy the very body of one. Vampires are immune to darkness. So if your mother is both-”
“I can’t kill her since each side would counteract the effect of the attacks I use.”
“Exactly. But, if you shoot her with the Cerberus, the gun from Hell, you can take her down. This is what you need to beat her…this is what I can only give you.”
“So basically, this is my burden to bear, and I’m supposed to kill my own mother, gotcha.”
“Son…I’m sorry, but I’m just an old man now…I can’t do anymore for you.”
“You did enough for one lifetime.” I said right as the Fenrir pulled up, “Roxas, we’re leaving.”
“But-”
“Now.” I said sternly, hopping on the bike. He did as well.
“…take care of yourself old man.” I said speeding off. I wondered what was going on. The whole father thing, the guy who looks like Sean, and even the most confusing part, why the hell do I have two damn keyblades!? Nothing was making sense.
When we got home Roxas went straight to sleep. I sat on the roof and stared at the stars, looking for a sole ray of home to bring to me. Then again, with friends like I have…maybe that was my hope. Hope to make it better for them to live, to survive…not to mention my friends in all the other worlds. All the weight on my shoulders though, being cursed with vampirism, having the DarkFire power, killing my mom and ex, the keyblade, the Heartless, it never ends. But perhaps it’s a dream, and I’m really just asleep. Does that mean my friends aren’t real? The answers would come soon enough I thought.
For now, I’ll just live in my little dream…the dream called life…
