There was a flash and I saw Sesshomaru and Kagome looming over me. I felt my torso and there was nothing wrong with me. How had I dodged death like that? And where was Naraku?
“Thank you Sesshomaru.” Kagome said sweetly. Sesshomaru just nodded.
“What…what happened to me?” I said sitting up. Everyone else had gathered around me.
“You’ve been dead for about twenty minutes,” Sesshomaru said, “I brought you back to life with my Tenseiga.”
“Well, I guess I should thank you.” I said standing up. That’s when I noticed something was wrong. I reached at my neck for the Shikon Jewel, and it wasn’t there. “They jewel! Don’t tell me that-”
“The moment you were gone he took it off of your body.” Sesshomaru said, “He used his miasma to blind me and escape.” Sesshomaru shook his head in disappointment. I just fell to my knees and smashed my fists into the ground.
“It’s all my fault…I should have never came here.” I said as tears began to well up in my face.
“Mike, the important thing is that you’re ok.” Kagome said kneeling beside me, “We’ll get Inuyasha back, I know it.”
“How can we!” I shouted at her, “Naraku has full control over him! He’s got the jewel and no weak spots! If he was human we-” That’s when it dawned on me.
“What is it Mike?” Sango asked
“Three days…” I said, “three days.”
“What happens in three days?” Miroku asked.
“What’s tomorrow!?” I shouted, cutting Miroku’s answer out of my mind.
“Tomorrow? Tomorrow’s the new moon?” Kagome said curiously.
“I see where you’re going.” Sesshomaru said. I smiled as everyone looked at me curiously.
“Well take Naraku down when Inuyasha’s body becomes a mortal.” I said to everyone, “I can free his heart, and Naraku will be forced from his body. That’s when we’ll take him down.” Everyone nodded in agreement. “Rest up guys, tomorrow’s going to be one helluva day.”
That night we started a fire (Sesshomaru and I got into a fight, and Kagome used the sparks of our blades to light the wood before hitting me in the head with a stone. A large stone) and sat around it, not being able to sleep. We ate some food Kagome gave to us, and I managed to catch a rabbit which we cooked (Sesshomaru had to kill it, it looked so sad to me) and ate. The smell had also led Koga and his group to us, and we all realized we had one army to take on a single person. I walked to a nearby ledge and looked over the landscape of this world. At night, it was beautiful, the lakes and springs sparkled like diamonds. I felt the wind change direction, but just shook my head to the cool breeze.
“Where is it.” a voice demanded from behind. When I turned I saw Kagura. I didn’t have to ask her what she wanted. I still had her heart on me. “Where is it!” she shouted louder. I turned around and held it in my right hand. “Don’t turn your back on me you f-” before she could finish I had lobbed the small orb back to her. She caught it and looked at it as if she had gotten a winning lottery ticket.
“Isn’t that what you wanted?” I said without turning around.
“Why are you being so nice to me after my master stole your friend?” she said, thinking I was up to no good.
“Because, now that you have your heart back, you’re free from your master.” I said, starting to turn, “So, how about it Kagura, care to help the right side for once?” I held my hand out to her. She looked at me and then absorbed her heart into her body. She stood there for a moment before swiping her fan out. She walked right up to me, and shook my hand as she put her fan to her face. Another ally was with us.
“I’ll show you where Naraku’s castle is.” Kagura told me, grabbing the feather from her hair.
“Can we make it there in less than a day?” I asked.
“Perhaps if you move fast enough, but you’ll need to fly.” she said taking off. I motioned for her to come back down which she followed.
“We leave in the morning,” I said, “for now, just rest up.” I was about to lead her to the camp, but realized that Koga and his crew would probably start a large fight with her if they saw her. “On second thought, just, enjoy your freedom tonight, and come and get us in the morning.”
“I had the same thought.” and with that, she took off to the skies. As I walked back I bumped into Sesshomaru.
“So you gave Kagura her heart back.” he said, no emotion in his voice.
“Yeah, in exchange she’ll lead us to the castle in the morning.” I said, the same amount of emotion in my voice. There was a long silence.
“I wonder how Jaken is doing?” Sesshomaru said, walking to the cliff I was just on. I returned to our fire. I was sitting there, watching the flames dance for some time, before falling asleep against a tree.
I woke up right as the sun was rising. After a small stretch, I leaped onto a tree and looked out of the top of it. I saw Kagura floating our way. As I leaped back down I shouted “Everybody up!”, waking everyone up. As I turned I saw Sesshomaru with Jaken. They were talking about something, but I couldn’t hear them with everyone else making sounds. As I looked around, I noticed that most of Koga’s men were gone. I walked up to confront him.
“Where’s the rest of the wolf tribe?” I asked.
“I sent them on ahead,” he said, sounding kind of snotty, “they saw Kagura last night and are following her to his castle. The only thought in my mind was “Crap”. If they got there without us, they stood no chance at all.
“Alright guys, we gotta move out now!” I shouted, clapping my hands. Jaken rode on Hachi, as well as the remaining wolf tribe members and Koga. Sango and Kagome rode on Kirara, and Sesshomaru and I would have to run up there. Shippo insisted on coming, so we let him ride in Kagome’s bag. The little kid had guts.
As we all followed Kagura, I got a chance to speak with Sesshomaru. “So why do you hate your brother so much?” I asked.
“He’s not a full-demon, and has no right to carry one of my father’s swords.” he responded, sounding angry.
“But he is still your brother.”
“That may be true, but still…”
“Why do you fight so hard alone?”
“Are you suggesting that I’m weak?”
“No, but look at Inuyasha. His strength is great, but his true power lies within, the power his friends give him. If you fought with someone else, perhaps you could be stronger as well.” Sesshomaru looked at me, no emotion in his face, but seemed to be thinking.
“…you may be right.” was all he said. I decided not to pester him anymore. After all, one swing and I could be diced in half.
We ran for a lot of the day. By the time we reached the castle, we were all so tired, so we sat for a few minutes to regain our stamina. I noticed the moon was starting to come out, and soon, the sun would fall. I talked with Kagome before we went in.
“So everyone will be holding off the demons inside while you, Sesshomaru, and I go after Naraku.” I said, “I’ll shoot a beam from my blade at him and unlock his heart. If you shoot a sacred arrow at him, it should seal only Naraku then, since I’ll have Inuyasha’s heart for a moment.”
“Are you sure it will work?”
“Only one way to find out.”
As we set in, the feeling of death loomed over us. It was as if the gravity of the planet had multiplied by thousands. As we walked through, the scent of blood got stronger and stronger. That’s when I saw a sight that made Koga cry. Hundreds of bodies were piled up, both human and wolf demon.
“Koga-” I started to say, but was cut off by the sound of a roar. Through the mist of miasma that was all around us, demons swarmed at us. Before any of us could strike, Koga leapt up and smashed the demon’s skulls open with his fist. “Now!” I shouted. As we began to run towards the main building, everyone else dealt with the demons that had flown down from out of nowhere.
As we got closer to the tower, demons began to come out of the buildings that were in the small buildings surrounding the tower. Sesshomaru and I hacked them down while Kagome kept running. We burst into the castle and began our ascent. No demons were inside, but the aura kept getting stronger.
“He’s at the top.” Sesshomaru said right as we stopped in front of the last staircase. Kagome collapsed to her knees. I knelt beside her.
“We’ll save him,” I said gently, “but we need you to be strong and keep him from tearing us in half. Alright?” Kagome looked up at me. She was scared, and I could see why. We were about to fight the one she loved, as well as the one she hated. She slowly nodded and stood up. Our strength in our hearts was strong, and I knew that we stood a good chance of saving Inuyasha. As we ran up the staircase, I wondered how much longer it would take for the night to begin.
As soon as we got on the roof, the power of the miasma was crippling. Through the dense purple fog, we spotted the possessed Inuyasha. I got ready to draw my blade as Sesshomaru drew his. Naraku slowly turned around, a wide grin on his face. The only words that escaped his mouth was “So, you fools followed your hearts right into oblivion. How pathetic.”
We didn’t get a chance to react because the pinkish beam that was Kagome’s arrow shot straight past us. Naraku drew the Tessaiga and blocked the beam, sending it into the ground. It was a sacred arrow. “Filthy wench, you thing that will stop-ugh!” Suddenly, the Tessaiga turned from a huge fang into its original rusty form. I guessed that from Kagome’s face, she had tricked the trickster. Sesshomaru and I dashed for the demon, our blades ready for blood.
Naraku was much trickier still. As soon as we got close, the insect legs burst from his back. We hacked down as many as we could, but were forced back from getting close to Naraku. I kept Kagome safe for a few minutes when the claws and legs froze and lifted, revealing a speedy demon with a huge fang for a blade. I parried the strike but was hacked open by the claws. Sesshomaru was quicker than I was, but caught a small slice on the back of his forearm.
“I’m faster than both of you,” Naraku stated, “I can kill you twice as fast now.” I noticed the Shikon Jewel hanging around his neck. I figured I could get in close and take it when I got the chance. But if he knew it, he would surely stop me. I devised a quick plan and charged Naraku unexpectedly.
I swung my sword which he blocked, but grabbed his arm and spun him, impaling him with my blade through his stomach. I went to take the jewel when his whole fist went straight through me. The pain crept through my body as he muttered “I have you now half demon.” I smiled at him.
“Wrong, I have you.” As his expression changed, I flipped him above me and went to smash his head into the ground. He stopped the throw with his hand at the last possible second, a smile creeping across his face as the jewel made a small ringing sound against the ground.
“Your attempts are useless.” he said, looking at the ground beneath us.
“I don’t think so.” As he looked at my smart a** face. I opened my mouth wide, and clamped down on the Shikon Jewel. He panicked and pushed me off his arm, which was a mistake, because I brought the jewel with me, snapping it off his neck. He went to hit me with his sword, but due to my new speed and his decreased speed, I blocked it and sent him flying backwards. I ran up to Kagome, the strands of the jewel hanging out of my mouth, and spat it out in front of me, catching it in my palm.
“Here,” I said in a hurry, “don’t worry about the battle, just purify the jewel.” She nodded in agreement as she took the jewel. I looked back to see Sesshomaru whipping at Naraku with some light whip. I charged Naraku and slashed at him. He parried with his sword, but Sesshomaru’s whip wrapped around the blade and ripped it from Naraku’s hands. Sesshomaru caught it but whipped it into the ground as electricity spun through the blade to his hand. It turned into it’s old rusty self when it was in the ground. I leaped over and picked up the sword, turning the rusted blade into the fang once more. The battle raged again.
Naraku was still a worthy opponent as his eyes turned red, symbolizing he had gone into a full demon. The insect legs sprung from his back once more, but with two large swords, I diced through them like they were made of paper. Sesshomaru threw Naraku backwards as I leapt to Kagome. I nodded and she knew what to do. She readied and arrow and fired at Naraku’s chest as I shot a beam out of my keyblade. We pierced him dead center, but he was resisting the arrow.
“Fools…there is not enough power…to counter the force I obtained from the jewel.”
He was right, I could feel the light being repelled off of him. He was still getting weaker, since he was resisting the power of the full moon had on Inuyasha. If only we had another force to back us up. Sesshomaru couldn’t get close with all the energy to use his own blade, and Kagome had to focus her energy on the arrow. We were losing.
Suddenly, a blue beam shot past us and smashed into Naraku’s chest, his roar echoing through the air around us. I looked behind me to see a woman in white that looked like Kagome holding a bow. Kagome turned around and muttered the word “Kikyo” as the woman walked away. I looked back to see a giant spider fall out of Inuyasha’s back. He was free.
As the spider fell off the tower we ran to Inuyasha’s aid. He was in bad shape due to the new moon taking effect. As his hair turned black and his ears disappeared, we rolled him to his back and placed the jewel on him. He could still get power from it even though he was in his human form, but it would take some time. Suddenly the whole castle shook. Sesshomaru and I ran to the edge to investigate and saw Naraku climbing up the side.
“Let’s go.” I said as Sesshomaru and I clinked our blades together. We leapt over the edge and ran down the side of the tower. Naraku released miasma from his demonic mouth, but I used a Wind Scar to separate the Miasma enough to where we could get through. Sesshomaru leapt over him and took out his legs while I ducked under him and did the same. As we landed with our blades out, Naraku landed on his back, the whole ground shaking as a large crater was put in the earth. Suddenly, his back swelled up.
“Get down!” Sesshomaru shouted. As we leapt out of the way, Naraku exploded in a mass of flames and Miasma. As we turned around, he was in his true form, the demonic mixture of insects.
“You cannot defeat me,” he shouted, “the more you cut me down the more I’ll come back up!”
“He’s right,” I said, “I don’t think that us alone can beat him.” Sesshomaru just looked at me, waiting for an idea. “We need Kagome.” I couldn’t finish the rest of my thought because Naraku began attacking with all he had. He was no longer toying with us, he knew that we were after his head, and he knew we could get it the first chance we got. He kept a flurry of tendrils and claws on us every moment, making us switch positions and keep away from his torso. I couldn’t launce a Wind Scar since I needed a second to swing my blade, and a Backlash Wave wouldn’t work because he wasn’t using a demonic attack, only physical.
Eventually he wore us down. He managed to draw blood from Sesshomaru with his claws, and sent me flying into the air. He went to slash at me with claws, but I spun and hacked his legs off. As I landed, I felt sweat on my face. I was fatigued, meaning I couldn’t continue much longer.
“Ha ha ha, you two are finished!” he shouted as one of his claws reared back. This was the end for me.
Suddenly, an inch in front of my face, Naraku’s claw stopped dead as he shouted in what seemed like pain. I looked up to see Inuyasha thrusting his blade through Naraku’s back. He was in his half demon form though, even through the moon was out. Then I noticed the jewel was around his neck, a small crack in it. He had used some of the power in the jewel to hold onto his demon form.
As he leapt off Naraku he looked at me. “You weren’t thinking about killing him without me were ya?” he spoke agitated.
“Well you were the one taking a nap!” I shot back. One of Naraku’s claws came at me, but Inuyasha hacked it in two before it got close.
“Let’s just finish this.” he said, running towards Naraku. He hacked away limbs like they were grass, dicing straight through all of Naraku’s attacks. Two limbs burst from the large lower abdomen of Naraku and sent Inuyasha into a wall. Sesshomaru was having the same trouble, Naraku using more quick techniques on him to keep him at bay. He was ignoring me though, so I took a moment to charge him. What I didn’t expect was that he had expected me to do that, and when I slashed through his abdomen, miasma came out and blew me away.
As I stood up after the blast, I saw Kagome run out from the bottom of the tower. I nodded to her when she nodded at me. She was going to use her arrow to seal Naraku.
“Guys, let’s all attack at once! Split his concentration!” I shouted. Sesshomaru and Inuyasha acknowledged, and we took off at different angles with different moves. Sure enough, it worked, and we managed to hack off all of Naraku’s limbs. “Kagome,” I shouted, “now!”
Naraku looked forward to see Kagome with an arrow. “This is the end Naraku!” she shouted as she released the arrow. It pierced straight through Naraku’s heart, going through the tattoo on his back as well.
“Wench, your arrows cannot defeat me!” he shouted. Another arrow flew through the air from above. It was Kikyo’s, and it pierced Naraku right above Kagome’s arrow. Naraku was stuck to the wall, his regenerative powers useless. “I…cannot be defeated…so easily!” he shouted between gasps.
I saw Sesshomaru looking at his Tokijin blade, almost like he was saying goodbye. He spun downward and shouted “Here’s your incarnation back Naraku!” and threw it like a javelin. It too, went through Naraku’s heart. Miasma began pouring out of Naraku’s wound.
“He’s resisting the power!” Kagome shouted. I looked over at Inuyasha. We nodded at each other and dove into the Miasma.
At the same time, we pulled our blades behind us and shouted “Backlash Wave!” Upon bringing our blades down, the enormous force erupted from our blades, colliding into each other and swirling around one another. They went straight through Naraku and the building behind him.
“No, I am Naraku! I cannot be defeated!”
“See you in hell!” Inuyasha shouted as he unleashed one final Wind Scar. The attack engulfed Naraku, and he vaporized with one final scream of pain. We stood there for a few moments, trying to comprehend that the battle had ended.
“Is…is it over?” Kagome said.
“Yes, I believe so.” Sesshomaru responded, emotionless as ever. I just smiled. I was glad I had helped my friends in this time of need. As I sheathed my blade, I stretched and sighed, relieved we were through. Suddenly Kagome grabbed my sleeve.
“We have to get Kohaku!” she shouted.
“No problem, we just go in and-” I was saying, but was cut short as there was a rumbling sound. I turned to the tower and saw some small chunks of rock fall off the side of it.
“The tower’s beginning to fall!” Inuyasha shouted. Without hesitation, Sesshomaru, Inuyasha, and myself dove into the tower, trying to find Kohaku. Inuyasha and I used our sense of smell to try to find him. I was about to go upstairs when a beam crashed through the stairwell, nearly taking me out.
“If you can’t climb up,” I said, crouching down a little, “you jump up!” With one leap, I smashed through the ceiling and landed on the next floor. I ran up the stairwell and got to about the sixth floor after a moment. I was running through the rooms when suddenly I heard someone shout.
“Heeelp!” A young boy’s voice rang through the tower from upstairs. I leaped straight up and landed in one of the rooms on the next floor. I turned to see a young boy cowering in the corner. He looked like Sango. “W-who are you!?” he shouted, brandishing a scythe on a chain.
“Are you Kohaku?” I asked, keeping some distance. He nodded, but kept the weapon out. “I’m Mike, I’m here to save you!”
“Mike,” I heard Inuyasha call, “get outta there! The buildings gonna fall!” I heard the sound of the roof quickly falling down from above. I ran forward and snatched Kohaku, drawing my blade with the other arm. A beam fell and blocked my path, but without losing a step I swung the blade and cried “Wind Scar!” The attack tore through the beam, the floor, and the wall leading outside. With a huge leap, I dove over the floor and out the gap in the wall before it closed on me. It was now a seven story fall to the ground below.
“Hold on!” I shouted to Kohaku as we plummeted towards the ground. Ten feet above the ground I was suddenly snagged by something and carried through the air. Sesshomaru had leapt and caught us both. He landed and set us down on the ground. “Thanks Sesshomaru.” I said, nodding to him. He just turned and started to walk away as Kagome and Inuyasha came up to Kohaku and I.
“Should we let him leave?” Kagome said, “He did help us and save you Inuyasha.”
“Let him go!” Inuyasha shouted angrily, “He’s useless anyhow.” I was surprised when Sesshomaru didn’t turn around to reprimand Inuyasha, but I guess he cared for his brother. Before anything else could be said, everything around us started to disintegrate.
“We gotta go!” I shouted, snatching up Kohaku. Kagome jumped on Inuyasha’s back and we began a super fast run outta the castle grounds. There were no casualties from our group, so it seemed like everything worked perfectly. We walked a mile away from the castle until we met up with the others. Sango instantly embraced Kohaku, and before I knew it, Inuyasha and Kagome disappeared.
“Inuyasha…Kagome.” I called out, looking for them. I walked slowly through the forest beneath where the castle once stood. That’s when I saw they were standing in a small clearing. Kagome was holding the cracked Shikon Jewel. I listened closely to what they were saying.
Kagome was the first one I heard speak. “But you may never turn back. You’ll be much weaker and might not even be able to use the Tessaiga!”
“Do you want me to change?” There was a long silence.
“No…Inuyasha, I love you the way you are.” Kagome stood up and hugged Inuyasha, and they finally kissed. I walked away, leaving them be. I knew what they were talking about from an earlier conversation with Kagome. Before Naraku came along, Inuyasha was in love with Kikyo, and believed he could use the Shikon Jewel to become human for her. But with Kagome, her heart loving people the way they are, Inuyasha could stay a half demon. It was best for both of them, and they were both in love, so nothing mattered. Not who they could be, but who they were.
As I went back to the rest of the group, Sango leaped onto me, crying “Thank you so much for saving Kohaku Mike!”
“Whoa Sango, it’s no big deal, I was happy to do it!” I said as she leaned back.
“Still, thank you so much, I’m just so happy!” It was at this point that Miroku had walked up to us, and before either of us knew what was going on, Sango leaped into Miroku’s arms and kissed him. Now this would have been good…provided Miroku had kept his hands under control. Needless to say, he did receive a slap from it, but still, Sango had pretty much professed her love for him. I guess everyone was in love.
As we walked back to Kaede’s village, Koga and the wolf tribe parted ways with us. However, they didn’t do this without Koga and Inuyasha fighting over Kagome, and as usual, this ended with Inuyasha face-planting the ground under the “Sit” command. But it was still cheery in our group. Sango and Kohaku were reunited, as well as Inuyasha and Kagome. Besides that, everyone was so lovey-dovey around each other, I couldn’t help but think back to Cassie. I’d head back in a day or two. For now, I’d spend some time here in the Feudal Era.
Over the passing days, we had a lot of fun together. Inuyasha and I sparred a few times, holding nothing back. This ended with the result of us repairing a field, a few sheds, and replanting lots of vegetables. Kagome went back to her time, and I promptly followed, eager to eat more of her delicious food. After a day there we headed back with more supplies, and I with a full stomach and some delicious food for the Nagakuras and myself of coarse.
On my last day there we had a picnic. It was nice to sit out in the shade and eat delicious sushi and noodles. I had two helping of ramen and sat back while I digested it. Kagome laughed, saying I might need a bigger kimono if I ate like this all the time. After a bit, I burned off the calories by fighting with everyone in a battle royal. Amazingly, I was nearly the victor until Kagome shot my sword out of my hand. She was disarmed by none other than Shippo, who turned out to be victorious in the fight. Needless to say, he mocked Inuyasha till he got punched, and Kagome once again made Inuyasha do a face-plant. Then she did something I hoped she’d do.
“Ok everyone, time for a picture!” she said as she pulled out a camera. We all lined up for the picture while Kagome got ready to set the timer. As soon as we were set, she rushed back to us and said “Ok, 3...2...1...cheese!” We all smiled as the camera flashed. A small picture slid out of the camera and was swept up by the wind. We all chased it down until Sango jumped onto Kirara and caught it.
Everyone marveled at the camera, amazed that it was them on the small sheet. “It’s nice, but there’s only one of them.” Kagome said sadly.
“No worries,” I said, cracking my fingers, “leave this one to me.” With a clap of my hands, I created 6 replicas of the picture using alchemy. I took one and tucked it in my kimono. As we headed towards the gate, we were laughing about all the fun we had the past few days.
“Well, it’s time for me to go.” I said as we reached the gate.
“When will you come back?” Miroku asked.
“Whenever you guys want me to.” I said with a smile, “That’s what friends are for.” They all smiled. After hugging everyone and saying farewell, I went back through the gate to my world, sad to leave my friends, but excited to find out what adventures were ahead of us.
When I got back to my side of the gate, my appearance and clothes were back to normal. Unfortunately, so was my right arm. But I was a little glad to see the gleam of the automail again. It was a burden and a blessing at the same time. I summoned the Fenrir to my location and went back home.
When I got back the Nagakuras were there. They wanted me to hang out with them for the day. I unfortunately agreed, which led to me being dragged to different stores, each draining a portion of my wealth. When the day ended, I didn’t have too much cash left on me, which was unfortunate, since I wanted to buy a game for my game system. The Nagakuras were happy though, so everything was good still. I went back home and jumped onto the couch, drifting into sleep, ending another day and another adventure in my life as the DarkFire Alchemist.
