I hate being me...my hair black and my eyes red. I look nothing like neither my mother nor my father, where the hell did I come from?
I sat at my desk, staring blankly at the chalkboard letting the sounds of whispers and giggles melt away as I concentrated on the birds outside the window.
The bell rang and the classroom was empty. Yet there I still sat waiting, as always, on Kenji.
With a sigh I got up and packed my books away and slipped my backpack over my shoulder.
"Aiko..."
"You are really bad on time you know..?" I frowned, turning to look at Kenji standing in the door. He was the only person here on this earth that understood me; he was like me, different yet still the same as everyone else. His hair was violet and his eyes grey but the stern face he always wore pulled a negative vibe from the angelic sight he truly was, so unique yet he tried to be the same.
"It's not my fault." Kenji said looking over his shoulder then sighing.
"Then whose fault was it?" I asked skeptically.
“Suzuki Cho." he growled the name.
"What?" I asked arching a brow.
"She has been following me all day!"
I laughed and walked out of the classroom, he followed me as I headed outside to go home.
"Wait! Himura Kenji!" Cho called running up behind us.
I stopped and looked over my shoulder still grinning. Cho was a 10th grader of class 3A a little bookworm who usually stayed to herself, her hair was brown and short ,a bowl cut of sorts, that framed her face. She stopped in front of me and Kenji and bowed trying to catch her breath she smiled at Kenji and blushed; a gleam came from her glasses when light caught them. "Kenji-san you left this at lunch and I wanted to return it to you..." she said quietly bowing her head again as she handed Kenji a book.
"Uh...Thank you Suzuki..." Kenji said taking the book and bowing.
"I'll see you tomorrow I suppose." he said turning and walking toward the front gates of the school.
Cho's smile faded and her hands fell to her side as she turned to walk away I smiled inwardly.
"Suzuki!" I called to her. She turned around with a curious look,
"Yes?" she asked.
"How would you like to have lunch with Kenji and me sometime?" I asked smiling at her as she blushed.
"I-I'd love to..." she stuttered.
"Good. I'll look forward to seeing you at lunch." I said waving as she bowed and walked away.
"Hey Aiko! Come on already!" Kenji called from the front gate.
"Coming! Coming!" I called back as I ran to catch up to him.
He had that 'Why did you bother look?' on his face and I just smiled.
"She likes you and you know it." I said as we walked down the sidewalk toward Kenji's place.
"She's not my type." he said.
"What is your type? The dark witches you read about?" I asked.
"No..." he said walking ahead of me.
I sighed and caught up to him, he was frowning again...he always did that when he was hiding something.
The fork in the road is where we split, I took the left and he took the right...
"I'll see you tomorrow." I said waving as I veered left. He waved over his head as he went straight.
I was alone as always. Walking down the now dark road toward my house. My mother was now dead and my father was on a business trip to Denver leaving me alone at home as well.
I got home and threw my book bag on my bed.
Why do you even live? You don't have anyone...no one cares. You’re always going to be alone Aiko...
I looked around my room for the voice that I heard but saw nothing. I shrugged it off and began to take off my uniform.
You could live with me forever Aiko and never fear being alone again...
I gasped and looked toward the window but it was closed and my door was open but nothing was there.
'Man I'm losing it...' I thought folding my uniform and putting on my pajama shorts and tank top.
I sat at my computer desk and did my homework until the doorbell rang.
I went down stairs to answer the door thinking it would be Kenji but it wasn't instead a man with dark red hair and black eyes stood in the door with a grin on his face.
"Can I help you..?" I asked.
"Aiko...come with me..." he said.
"Who the hell are you?" I asked backing away a little to close the door in his face. He put his hand on the door and stopped the door, his grin was wider as he pushed the door open and stepped into my house.
"I'll have to ask you to leave..." I said.
He looked at me his grin broke into a wide smile revealing his white and sharp teeth. I gasped and turned to run from him but he was already chasing me upstairs and grabbing for me. I fell as I ran into my room to get the knife my grandfather gave me, but before I could get up he was standing over me.
"You can't get rid of me, love..." he said and I felt his hands on my wrist, his nails cutting into my arm.
"Ow..!" I cried and tried to get away from him.
"Hold still!" he growled throwing me onto my bed.
I scrambled toward the farther side and tried to get to my window but he was there before I could even fully turn.
"Who the hell are you!? What do you want!?" I yelled.
"I'm yours...I want you that's what I was made for."
"Made for..?" I questioned and then something hit my head.
"Damn Akemi, you didn't have to knock her out like that..." the man growled touching my head.
"Well you didn't have to cut her..." Another voice growled back.
My eyes shot open when I heard two voices and saw two men in my room on stroking my head the other frowning at me.
I screamed and pushed away from the red hair'd man. I looked over at the one standing by my desk he had blonde hair and his eyes were hazel, they both were wearing black dusters and underneath black slacks and white dress shirts.
"Aiko its okay..." the one next to me said.
I jumped away when I noticed how close he was to me I balled up my and sucker punched him right in the jaw.
"Stay away from me!" I yelled.
I began to sway...my head felt washed and fuzzy...
"I think you cut her pretty deep Mareo...."
"We have to think of another way to....."
The voices seemed farther away as I fell over on my bed and blacked out...
I stood at the gate looking up at the dark angels engraved on the golden doors. I could finally get the answers I've been searching for, I looked to my left and saw the worn path I'd walked over the years then I looked to my right and saw a shadow staring at me.
"On the other side of this gate is the truth you have been searching for..." he said to me, his voice was deep and comforting in its own way.
I swayed toward the sound searching for the comfort I had lost years ago. Sadly the voice faded and the shadow disappeared,
"Wait! Don't leave me alone..!" I called into the dark.
Nothing answered me...I was alone again with no one to hold me as I shivered from the cold air that blew through my hair, wiping it into my face. There was a loud groan of resistance as the heavy gates opened and a white light shone through the slit of the half-opened gate.
I felt hollow as I walk toward the light that beckoned me and cold I felt cold, like I was locked in a freezer and then I felt hot a burning sensation down my arm.
"Please wake up, Aiko. Don't leave me..."
It was the shadow, it came back for me! I looked to my right again and saw it, the shadow was reaching for me pulling me away from the light and the truth locked behind the massive gate.
Everything began to change, the gate swirled and morphed into nothing and the shadow that held me by the wrist was fading but this time was different. It wasn't disappearing like the last time; instead the shadow was fading and exposing its true face, a beautiful face. Kenji's face, he was the shadow that was holding me.
"Wake up for me..." he said and I noticed what he was saying.
'Wake up?' I thought. Was I asleep?
The burning on my arm was worse. I looked down and saw crimson...it was seeping though the fingers Kenji had at my wrist. I was bleeding!
The gate was gone and the grip on my wrist was tighter. Light shone over me and I looked up squinting at the orb over head...
"Ms.Koizumi? Can you hear me?" a deep voice said over me and I felt a pressure on my other wrist but when I looked down I didn't see a hand.
"Open your eyes Ms.Koizumi." the voice said.
'Open my eyes? My eyes were closed?' I thought and then it hit me the cold air that was blowing became rain and I batted my eyes at the droplets on my lashes.
Shadows danced in front of me every time my eyes opened and light flashed over me, becoming brighter. I felt the heat of the light and the feeling of cold hands and then I felt the pain in my arm, on my wrist.
I opened my eyes to find myself in a white room, I sat up but hands pushed at me.
"Aiko, lie down." Kenji said his voice a little hoarse.
I looked to my right and I noticed him, he was standing next to me with his hands braced on my shoulders gently pushing me back down.
"What’s going on? Where am I, Kenji?" I asked softly almost whispering.
"Your at the hospital, Ms.Koizumi." a man with a deep voice said.
I looked toward the voice and saw a doctor; he stood next to an I.V. with a frown on his face as he stuck me with a needle.
I flinched at first but then focused on him again, his hair was dark green and cut short, his eyes were onyx and he looked both angry and happy at the same time. I looked back at Kenji to see him smiling at me like he did when we were younger; I hadn't seen him smile in years.
"I'm so happy your okay." he said.
"What was wrong?" I asked looking from him to the doctor.
