Chapter Five

To Stall or Not to Stall

It had been several days since the boat accident and the family was going to a music festival. “Here we are Sónar music festival!” Alex’s dad said pulling into a parking lot. They got out of the car and started walking towards Sonar Park. “I don’t see why we had to go to Sónar by night! Sónar by day would be just as good!” Aunt Mildew said walking beside them. Sónar music festival is a festival that happens every year from June 19th through June 22nd all the hottest bands perform. “This is awesome!!” Alex said grabbing Sarah’s hand and running towards the large stage in the middle of the park, “Yeah, but I can’t get that living la vida loca song out of my head,” Sarah responded. “Me too,” Alex said banging her head to get the song out. Several minutes later they were waiting for the bands to come on, “Alex I have to use the bathroom.” Sarah said, “Ok, Mom me and Sarah are gonna find a bathroom.” Alex said starting to walk off. They walked behind the stage, “They’ve gotta have a bathroom back here.” Alex said, then they over heard the director, “What do you mean Björk’s not here!!?? I have 80,000 people out there waiting to hear that little girls’ loud voice!! Get me Björk!! We need to stall!!” the director yelled. “Well sir all the other bands are at sound check,” the stage manager replied. Alex saw an opportunity of a life time, “We could stall for Björk.” Alex said, “Do you know any songs?” The director asked. Alex smiled a mysteriously, “We know one…” Sarah looked at Alex confusedly “You’re hired!! Make up!!” The director shouted and two ladies came and started dusting the girls with blush. “What are we going to do Alex!!!” Sarah shouted as she was being pushed towards the stage, “Just follow my lead!!” Alex was able to utter out before they were pushed on stage. The crowd was silent and Alex looked to see her family. Her mom and Aunt Mildews faces were pale and shocked, but her father had a surprised smile on his. Sarah froze with the microphone in her hands; Alex walked over to the band and whispered something. After several seconds trumpets started going off in a familiar tune, then Alex began to sing, “She’s in to superstitions! Black cats and voodoo dolls!!! I feel a premonition that girl’s fall!! Hola Barcelona how you doin tonight!!??” Alex yelled into the microphone and the crowd roared. Alex waved Sarah to come up further and Sarah ran next to her and sang the next verse in Spanish, they danced to the song with the dance they had made up the night before when they were doing karaoke with Alex’s new karaoke machine. By now the crowd was on its feet, “She’s livin la vida loca!!!” Alex and Sarah yelled at the same time. Alex took the microphone off the stand and started jumping and dancing around the stage, between a verse Alex yelled, “There’s something I’ve always wanted to do, let’s see if you can help me!!” With that Alex jumped into the crowd and crowd surfed. When she got back up on stage she sang some more and when the song ended Alex acted like she fainted in Sarah’s arms and Sarah began to drag her off stage when Alex shouted, “Good night Barcelona!!!!!!!”

    [constructive criticism time]
Okay, so I'm just browsing, and after a .8-second glance at this entry, my eye was immediately drawn to the appalling amount of punctuation.
Please, one exclamation point is quite enough. I strongly dislike these anyway, and seeing seven in a row makes me cringe. And worse.

    other examples:
    "not here!!??"
"Black cats and voodoo dolls!!! I feel a premonition that girl’s fall!! Hola Barcelona how you doin tonight!!??”

    So...yeah.
If you are seriously writing or ever find yourself considering publication, this is something you will absolutely need to fix.
