Dakota was lounging on the grass in front of her high school with her best friends, Lexie and David. It was the first day of school, the worst day of the year. But Dakota, Lexie and David had a way of making it more bearable. The first day of school was often the best day of the year for their favorite hobby; making fun of freshman. They loved to watch the freshman get lost, or avoid the older students, looking scared. “It’s great being a junior” Lexie said laughing as they watched a boy staring at him map, and then tripping over a skateboard that was left on the grass. “No kidding” Dakota agreed.
As the bell rang, Dakota and David got up and stretched. Lexie held up her hands and yawned. Dakota and David each grabbed one of her hands and pulled her up. “Later David, see ya Lex” Dakota said as she turned and walked to first period.
As she walked into the science lab, Jeff walked over and put his arm around her. “How have you been Koda?” Dakota rolled her eyes “Don’t touch me you pervert” she snapped, elbowing him in the ribs. “Freak” he muttered as he walked back towards his group of friends. Dakota made a face and found a seat in the back of the classroom. Both desks next to hers were empty, just the way she liked it. She pulled out her ipod and started drawing in her notebook. As she was finishing her drawing of a rose, a paper airplane hit her in the head. Dakota looked up and glared at a group of guys laughing in the corner.
She picked up the paper airplane, crumpled it up, and walked over to where the boys were standing. “Who does this belong to?” she demanded. “Oops, my bad” said one of the guys with a smirk. She grabbed his hand and dropped the crushed airplane on to his palm. Then she kneed him in the gut. “Oops, my bad” she said with a smile as he clutched his stomach. One of the other guys grabbed her shoulders from behind. She elbowed him in the ribs and walked calmly back to her seat. She put her headphones back on and continued her drawing as the talking and laughter started up again. “They both just got beat up by a girl” a blonde said to her friend. Dakota smiled to herself. This was a new record for her. A fight on the first day of school, and before class had even started.
