Aaron panicked the moment he'd noticed the smoke coming from his two-bedroom house, fearing the darkest possibility as he'd quickly bolted across the plain. In seconds, he'd slammed the door open and surveyed the inside of the building for any destruction or sign of the smoldering flames.
... except, none of that could've been spotted. Fayth, the only thing that looked remotely destroyed was the burnt cake on the coun-... oh, that explained it.
Cecilia seemed troubled by the destroyed piece of bakery in front of her and tears were traveling down her face, warning him of her emotional turmoil. Sniffling, the redhead turned towards him and embraced him for everything that she was worth.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry!" the woman had apologized profusely, causing mirth to appear in his chocolate brown gaze.
Smiling, de Maria placed his chin atop her head to comfort her in her time of need, recalling the faint flush of embarrassment and utter disappointment that covered her beautiful features. "Come'on... stop crying, I don't care that you burned the cake."
It seemed that unlike him, Volkov did care about the fact that she'd burnt the cake, judging by the increasing dampness of his shirt.
"It was your birthday cake! How am I supposed to feel knowing that I burnt my boyfriends birthday cake!?"
Cecilia never ceased to amaze him by the way her brain worked, with that personality of hers that he couldn't help but to adore.
Laughing, the blonde had pulled her out of his embrace and looked her in the eyes for the first time that evening; chocolate brown meeting warm amber in their silent conveying of thoughts and feelings.
His eyes, ones that she'd feared might show the signs of rage and unbridled anger, instead betrayed the amusement he'd felt in her actions and the way that she'd reacted. "I don't care that you've burnt the cake, the simple fact that you tried baking it in the first place is the real thing that matters to me."
Aaron kissed her on the cheek and brought her back into his arms, cherishing the moment and engraving the memory into his very heart to look back on in the future.
"How does cuddling by the fire and watching movies for my birthday sound, honey?"
Cecilia sniffled as she'd pushed herself away from him, looking at him to really see if her boyfriend hadn't cared about her mistake, almost blushing when she'd realized that he was telling the honest truth.
... and promptly blushed as he'd brushed aside her stray tears, smiling kindly in that way that had intrigued her from the first time that they met in Bevelle.
Embarrassed, the redhead looked toward the floor and pressed her pointer fingers together to convey the way she felt. "I-I would like that v-very much, Aaron."
---
Night had fallen by the time he'd prepared everything and thrown away the burnt piece of bakery and his loving redhead stood by the front door of the house, waiting patiently for him to open the door as he'd promised.
Aaron drew the door open and promptly covered his eyes with his hands, stepping behind her and leading her into the living room to prevent her from crashing into anything. In the background, she'd faintly heard the noise of him closing the door with his foot before they had continued.
Gently, the blonde had pulled her towards the floor and she felt herself being pressed against his toned chest, laying between his legs whilst he'd leaned back on the couch himself. Finally, he'd removed her hands and the woman had barely restrained the gasp of surprise that threatened to escape her as she'd mentally processed the scene in front of her.
Candles lined the walls and sat upon each of the tables in that part of the house, the lights weren't on, and the "Sphere Player" sat on the biggest table of them all. Inside of the machinery was the movie of her boyfriends choice, one that she didn't know the name of nor could see it from the distance between the object and herself.
"Ready?" the man had questioned, his warm breath practically tickling the back of her neck.
Cecilia nodded in response, not trusting her voice in that moment.
He pressed one of the buttons on the remote and the Machina sprang into action, the breathtaking appearance of Zanarkand appearing in the hologram. Instantly, the name of the movie had come to mind and she'd looked back at him from the corner of her eyes in surprise. "You-...!"
Aaron had cut her off by kissing her on the lips, making her blush and her eyes flutter closed as she'd enjoyed the action.
It wasn't until four minutes later that he'd reluctantly broke away from her and licked his lips, her blush deepening at the display.
Smiling, the redhead looked away from her boyfriend and looked back at the hologram just as the movie had started playing. Unknown to Cecilia, the blonde had reciprocated the expression as she'd leaned her head back on his shoulder.
He didn't live for the excitement that theft could bring him or the cheap trill of battling for his life, not anymore... instead, he'd chosen to live for the little moments like this, for the precious memories that they offered.
