Yes, I really am questioning it. You know you have too at some point.

So, let us think on this.

A bathroom is basically a room where one can bathe/shower, and of course use the toilet. Yes there is more you can do, but I'm not going to go into details on that. razz So, a restroom on the other hand, is a room full of sinks and toilets available to the public. Honestly, who really wants to go there to rest? Why would you?

Now, if I am correct, the term restroom is a euphemism, which is an expression intended by the speaker to be less offensive, disturbing, or troubling to the listener than the word or phrase it replaces. With that being said, in a way I can understand why we say restroom. But, could the person who started it not come up with a better term that relates to the usage of the room?

It's just one of those annoying things that will more than likely never change. Oh well.
