Before you start reading I have to say that these are my opinions and you don't have to listen to them. I don't want anyone pming me to insult my thinking. Unless it is healthy criticism that will go into my revised rules.
1. Never say the thread is dead. The moment you say that others agree and the thread WILL die.
2. All you wonder wizards or whatever you are, it is not a good idea to always have the answers to the many problems by using magic or other such devices. Get creative and don't be afraid of sounding stupid because it is worse to make it too easy than to be embarrassed for a moment.
3. Those of you that act mean, stupid, insane ((I am a culprit)), or just plane silly, This is for you. Look... everyone likes to have a laugh every now and then, but it has to end at some point. Know when to quit the joke. and the ones who are there just to insult people for whatever reasons ((most likely your own lack of self confidence)), you are the bane of any threads existence and therefore should lock yourself away till you have nothing bad to say about others.
4. ok now for a couple helpful things. You don't need the owner to hold your hand and guide you through the rp all the time ((some points are needed)) if the owner is gone start up something else to keep the others busy till they return.
5. I have said it before and I will say it many times more. Tension is the life blood of a successful thread. It is the tension between the heroes and the villain. Heroes and their friends. Heroes and themselves ((or their mind.)). That will drive everyone to think up more creative things to do to battle a new problem. Unless they are lazy and end it like the people mentioned in rule #2.
6. Often times the thread will run into the problem of everyone not being on at the same time. This can be remedied a few ways. One is to have a set time to get together ((use Gaia time as the standard so that the rpers can compare it to their own time zone)) a second thing one may try is simply keeping an update space on the first page of the thread so that the others may just simply pick up from where it was left off for the night ((a combination of the first and second ideas will work really well.)) the downside is that it is hard to remember to update the page. A third thing to do is to have someone send pm?s to those who were away summing up where the characters are in the story and what may happen next.
7. often times the only way to get experience on Gaia is to learn from the others in a rp or thread?unfortunately those who have been their a long time may get a little annoyed with the newcomer. This is natural, but remember not to go too far. Give fair warning if there is a problem and always keep in mind that 'you' were once a noob until you learned from those around you how to act.
8. Ask some bloody questions! If you don?t know something in the story, pm one of the other rpers to find out what it is. If you fake your way through the situation, many things may become disjointed and confusing for the others involved. Confusion is one of the first steps in damaging a rp. Like the human body, if an rp takes too much damage it dies.
once again feel free to add to these. if you have any rules you would like to add, just pm me and speak your mind. also healthy criticism is allway good... just refrain from calling me a total idiot... my poor feelings may not take the strain. blaugh
