There was a tingle, first as I crossed the barrier, and then again, as our hands met. He sent the spell to my mind, and it fizzed like I'd been drinking champagne. In that moment of disorientation, the incubus pulled me across the line of the circle. As if from nowhere, I found myself enveloped in his arms, pressed against Edward, and folded into a set of wings.
I would have expected the wings to be leathery, like a bat's, but the texture of the surface felt soft, like a fine pile velvet. Like wise, the hair against my cheek was silk. It was a sensory seduction, all around, I found myself clutching the fabric of Edward's shirt as a grounding, as the spell the incubus had given me settled in my mind.
"You're all right, then?" he asked. This close his voice was as much felt as heard. "I wasn't sure you would be, you looked so struck, I was afraid that you would fall."
"Quite fine." I retorted breathlessly.
"Well then," the demon said. "Continue."
I managed to detach a hand from Edward's shirt front, and touch his cheek. He looked at me, almost confused, but his pupils were dilated so far, he probably couldn't see me at all.
"I wonder if you'll remember this..."
The spell had settled in my mind as if it had always been there. It wasn't something I would have learned, but I had no doubt that it would be useful in the future, but it felt odd to be casting any spell on a friend.
The spell required more than a simple friendly kiss, as well. The entire spell was wrapped up in the kiss, to bring down defenses and to bring sleep. With that in my mind, I kissed him.
For those of you who have not yet kissed, men's mouths are different than women's- not a lot but enough that one can tell. The brush of stubble where our faces met was an unusual sensation, and not entirely unpleasant. I felt him relax, and then, slump into sleep, leaning against me as much as the incubus. I glanced over and saw the demon smile. Pushing away, I gathered Eward up, and took a step out over the circle- only to be arrested by something snagging my coat. Glancing back over my shoulder, I saw the incubus had a tight hold of the tail of my jacket.
"Do not think to cheat me-" he said, almost plaintively, black eyes deep.
"I am putting Edward into his bed." I retorted. "I gave you my word."
Releasing his hold, the incubus waited as I lay my friend on his bed, and covered him with a quilt. From the looks of things, the sleep I had spelled was the first real sleep he'd gotten in a long time. I turned around again, and looked at the demon, who was now alone in his circle.
"You didn't, you know." he murmured as I took a step forward. "You never said you would."
"I took your hand." I returned, as I reached the edge of the circle.
"I am a demon." he offered. "I could be tricking you."
I looked down at him for a long moment, and he didn't move, folded into his wings and hair, looking healthy, but somehow diminished from the first time I had seen him, or when he had touched Edward.
"You could be." I allowed. He hung his head, and sighed. "But you are not." In as near to one movement as I could master (before I had a chance to change my mind) I stepped across the circle of my own will, knelt, and pressed my lips to his.
