Night had fallen too soon for a woman who is fearing the darkness. Should she really be afraid? She asked herself for a hundredth time as she ran and carried her baby to the nearby place where she had seen a comforting light. Does she, a creature of darkness, have the right to fear the night? Should she be even afraid of what lies behind her once she looks back? Yes, she answered her own question in terror. Yes, she should. For the baby resting in her hands would be killed should she not hurry it to safety. Yes, because of her love for this half human child, she is in danger of giving herself in her terror should anything bad happens to this child. And so, she hurried on, ignoring the trees and the scenery that she normally adores during her waking moments. She passed them by and made haste as best as her weakening body could give her.
All of her hopes died away as she heard the flapping of wings that is fast approaching behind her. 'We are almost there', her mind screamed. 'Save your child. Even if it means never seeing it again. Even if it means eternal pain. Save his offspring, the man that you love most have left you in this world.'
She had reached the light, only to find that she's reached the edge of the forest and is approaching a newly constructed village. She ran towards the nearest house and when she was about to throw open the door and get inside, she was knocked back by some unseen barrier making her loose hold on her baby. The last thing she remembered, then, was that the child landed on the floor of the veranda in a white heap. And she, still being knocked away by some unknown force, that permeates her kind to never enter the place that they are never welcomed in, had landed back to the edge of the forest, where her pursuers found her.
'At least the baby is safe.' That was the last though she had before unconsciousness took over her form. When her pursuers had seen her, a tear had found its way through her eyes as she slept--a tear that said good-bye to the short-lived happiness she had. The happiness that she never regretted even though it had ended in a very sad way...
