21st May 2007 - Chess Battle, what a shame! |

Well, it's the day they've been waiting for. The day I've been waiting for. It's nothing as dramatic as the title - I mean, chess battle is nothing to describe it. It's just a friendly game of chess with really determined and stupid people (when I say stupid, it's directed to the ones in my school).
Anyway, yeah - it's our school vs. another school. There are supposedly six people in my school participating - four boys, two girls. The other girl didn't show up, damn her, leaving me as the only girl this evening when we were playing chess in the school library. Everyone else were males - the librarian, the teachers, and the ones playing, except for me. Not that I felt left out - the other four boys in my school are my best mates.
So we waited after school for about twenty minutes or so, me playing random games of chess while the wait continued. And we went on playing, over and over, until the school librarian finally got a call saying that they arrived. I went down to the reception to gather the players and their teachers and led them to the library where we then started the game.
Dan A and I had a bet - I bet 50p (about one dollar) that he will win his match and he bet 50p that I will win my match. So I played against this boy from the other school and he took about thirty seconds to move one piece - and I'm like "What the hell!? Move!!!!" I'm not an impatient person, rest assured, but he had to think about his moves even from the very start of the game, so that irked me - especially with the rest of my mates finishing their matches in about five/ten minutes.
It ended up with a draw. Sadly, me being the clumsy girl I am, I lost my queen to a pawn (a damn PAWN, for goodness sake!) and he lost his queen to my castle - but unlike him, he couldn't avoid losing his queen. I had him checked with my bishop while I moved my castle beside his queen, so he couldn't do anything much there at all. But in the end, we drew - he had one King, and I had a King and a Bishop. No chance of winning there even though we both had chances to checkmate the other.
It was running a bit late for me to have a game with another student from the other school, so I gave Dan A his 50p and we had a quick game of chess - didn't finish it though because there was no time. Ethan beat my opponent using a pawn (how ironic, because they call me the Queen of Pawns) and Alex actually won a game which is absolutely shocking. And Dan A, being the typical teenage-minded hard-mouthed weak freak called me a Lesbian for losing (he always does it, so I'm used to it) and I chased him down the corridor and he ended up slamming himself against a wall. So that was stupid.
We walked back home together, all six of us (Paul being with us to watch the games, along with Alex, Dan A, Dan N, Ethan and I) and they kept making snide remarks about me drawing. <.< We had six games, and I drew mine while the rest won theirs, so that's a bit insulting. I'll pretend to sulk tomorrow and see what happens, but knowing me, that act of sulking won't last long at all.
