The workings of an Advent Child
Journal of Rael 4 – Tears Shine Like Diamonds
We stood up and noticed that we were standing in front of the largest wall that I had ever seen, even taller than the Gigas gates. “Rayne can you circle the city to see if there are any weaknesses in the walls?” With a blink of my eyes she was gone and less than 10 seconds later she appeared and delivered the bad news. “It looks like we have to go over the wall, or get in some other way.” Aleks stepped forward, “I shall get us inside, as long as you promise that the city will not survive, like Lemuria.” Dante gasped. “Why would you want that fate for the Earth Children? Even though you saw what happened to your civilization. You would inflict that upon them as well?” Aleks sighed, “Either you let me make the wall, crumble, or you can watch me drown them within the city using the Mercury Star.” Suddenly the star flashed and then began to glow a terribly bright blue, as if it’s life force had returned. “Get us inside quickly, the Star senses the power of Venus, the Goddess of Earth. This is the city of Diamonds, according to Legend.” I finally had absorbed all of this and spoke. “The Star only responds to another, or perhaps it is responding to the Fayth that is here. Aleks did you say that the Star contained a Fayth?” “Of course it does, it holds the fayth of Shiva’s Twin sister. The Fayth of water, Oceana.”
“WHAT!??” Screamed Rayne. “I didn’t know that we were searching for the Fayth of Old? This is old magic, we are in way over our heads here. I don’t even remember Ultima or the Silent Brothers saying anything about us looking for Ultima’s Allies during the war with the darkness.” Aleks eyes flashed with power. “I will flood the area between the outer and inner walls of the city, and you three can go inside and find the Star and when you do I will flood the city.”
Rayne began to cry, “I will go into the city alone, and when I have the Star I will return and Aleks you can destroy the city, if anything is left when I am done.” And with that Rayne walked to the wall and disappeared over it. “I am leaving too.” Aleks then became a puddle of water and reappeared on top of the wall and water began to pour from his hands into the space between the walls. My head was spinning with questions, I had no clue what was wrong with Rayne, and I still did not know why Aleks would wish the fate of his people on someone else. So I decided to ask. “Umm…Dante, why did Rayne act like that?” Dante’s hair sparkled in the full moonlight, with the desert breeze making it sway in the wind. “Well, right after you left, when the Elemental Children attacked Giruvergan an Earth Child killed Rayne’s partner, and she has never been the same since. When she lost her love she had the ability to send out massive curses and crippling spells through her voice alone. She will never forgive her lover’s killer, so she goes with a vengeance into the city. Hoping to get revenge upon her partner’s murderer.” I looked at Dante with tears in my eyes. I had not known that Rayne was in love, let alone that her love had been slain in the war.
Rayne had made her way into the city and was on the main street, walking towards the fountain in front of the Diamond Palace. With tears still swimming in her eyes, her hands began to glow with blue fire illuminating her perfect body. As she reached the fountain she began to sing the saddest, and most haunting song that I had ever heard, and unfortunately would never be able to forget. “Don’t try to fix me I’m not broken, Hello I am the lie living for you so you can hide, don’t cry. Suddenly I know I’m not sleeping, Hello, I’m still here all that’s left of yesterday.” Her hands were glowing brighter than the full moon, as the spell took its full effect. As people began to leave their homes, they began to have their souls taken from them. But the song only reached within the immediate distance, of her, so only half of the city was affected. The souls gathered into the palm of her hands, as she screamed. “Trail of souls!” The souls began to fiercely glow, and the pure energy that had gathered, shot towards the diamond palace and struck the wall with full force. A hole shattered into the Diamonds, as the pieces fell to the earth with a crash. As Rayne disappeared and reappeared at my side, a piercing light emanated from the top of the Diamond Palace as a woman held the Venus Star and the Hymn of the Fayth came from the very core of its existence. The Venus Star glowed brightly as we wondered what was going on in the top of the Diamond Palace.
As the Advent Children was standing in the desert, the High Priestess of the Earth Children was clutching the Venus Star as its power pulsed in her hand. She shrieked into the night as she realized that she was the only thing standing between the destruction of her people and their salvation. With a wave of her hand she made the shards of broken diamonds, become Golems to do her bidding to protect the city from the outsiders. “I will not let these Children of Change, destroy everything that I worked so hard for hundreds of years to make happen.”
