BATTLE WORN - THE BEGINNING - 2/2
4 hours later
Under the beautiful orange sunset, Lee was standing next to one cannons; after 5 hours, the walls have finally beginning to crack under the strain of the artillery volley.
He was about to go back to the hangar when Captain Corey walked towards Lee, he looked happy for some reason (although Lee can guess why).
'Good news Lee, the cannons have finally made some dents into that wall', Corey said proudly.
Lee nodded and smiled, he brought out his flask and took two swigs out of it. Corey noticed that Lee was still holding the box that he gave him.
'You know, you can open that box now', Corey reminded Lee politely.
Lee nodded and opened the box. Inside the box was a MK 1 Battle Rifle, a small pistol, a dagger, 3 grenades, 3 smoke bombs, 3 flashbangs and two boxes of ammo.
'Oh, and some more good news; don't ask me why, but General Reece had decided to make you into a Lieutenant, you are to bring your men to the General when you are ready', Corey said. Lee looked at Corey, his eyes were overcomed with shock and happiness. He had never been a Lieutenant before in his life.
'T-Thank you, sir', Lee stuttered, Corey smiled and walked off.
Lee wandered over to the hangar, where Nick spotted him. When Lee told Nick what had just happened, Nick was shouting with joy.
He called all the lads and told them to stand in a line; the lads looked confused.
'Right, General Reece want us to meet with him when we're ready; but thats not all'. He brought Lee to the front, who was still a little shocked about this. 'This young man here is the quickest AND youngest person i've met that's just been promoted to Lieutenant!' Nick shouted happily. The rest of the lads thought they're deaf. But when Lee confirmed it was true, they were as happy as Nick and went to pat Lee on the shoulder.
When everything was ready, Lee and the rest went to see General Reece as they were told to. they went past the cooled down cannons and saw the General from a mile off (he was wearing mostly black).
General Reece was speaking to Captain Corey when they both spotted Lee and his squad.
'Ah, so you're the Lieutenant i've just promoted, so glad i could meet you; you can called me Reece', The General said politely. Like Corey, Reece didn't like to use his status when he is speaking to people. He looked at Lee's squad, all of them (except Lee) were wearing the Colours of the 21st Regiment.
'For now; you may keep the clothes; but after we take down the wall, you might have to change them', he said kindly. He expected the Lads to moan; but to his surprise, they agreed.
Andy asked Reece 'Can we have same Colours as our Lieutenant, sir?'
'Yes, but right now i need you and your men to secure one of the main buildings we think the Renegades are using as a supply store', Reece explained quickly.
'We'll attack at 10:00pm, our tanks and artillery will be ready by then to cover you,' Corey added. 'From now on, Lee, your team will be referred to as the Battle Worn Regiment.'
Corey and Reece showed Lee and his men a map of the city. They explained how to get into the city without being spotted and where the supply store.
'Apparently, according to our spys, there is a building not far from the main building that is loaded with the enemies weapons and explosives; either try and retrieve them or destroy them,' said Reece as he lit a ciggarette.
Lee looked at the map carefully and asked 'Do you have a small version of the map i can use?'
Both Reece and Corey nodded...
9:30pm - 30 minutes before the assault...
The 61st Battlion was readying for the siege of Florida; some loading and its artillery, weapons and tanks, others shouting orders. Lee, Nick, Lewis, Andy and the others were outside and looking a little nervous. Nick was trying to fix his battle rifle; he thought (this time) it was going to work, but as soon as he pulled the trigger, the rifle just stopped working altogether.
'AGH, i hate these bloody rifiles...' he mumbled to himself.
Lee told Nick and the others that he was just going to have a little walk to calm his nerves. Once Lee knew the others were out of sight, Lee headed towards the one of the shops near the hangar. Lee headed towards the gun shop, the owner was outside, looking at the stars until Lee came forward.
'Ah, the new Lieutenant, how can i help you?' asked the shopkeeper politely.
Lee told him that a friend needed a new gun and quick and asked if he could have a look at some rifles, the shopkeeper had a odd glint in his eye.
'I DO have a special gun, but the problem is that i cannot sell it unless i'm certain that person can handle it,' the shopkeeper warned.
He went inside the shop and came back a few seconds later, holding a rifle.
'This is a....' He grabbed some sliver spectacles and read the piece of paper with it. '...5 Barrel Battle Rifle; it fire 5 bullets at the same time and is useful for taking down a group of enemies,' he said as he took off his specs.
Lee took the gun and brought out some money out of his pocket,
The shopkeeper, however, didn't take the money though.
'To be fair; i don't really like taking money from people who are buying a gun like that for their friends; you can take the gun, free of charge,' he whispered.
Lee ran towards the hangar, hoping Nick would be on his own trying to fix his rifle. To Lee's luck, Nick was just packing his gun.
'Hi, this gun is bloody useless; you can barely fire one bullet,' Nick said with disappointment. Nick looked at the 5 barrel gun with little jealously.
'I supposed thats your new gun since you're a Lieutenant,' Nick said bitterly. However, to Nick's surprise, he saw that Lee was smiling and placed the gun next to Nick's old rifle.
'Actually Nick, i bought that gun for you,' said Lee, who was still smiling.
'Thanks....' Nick said slowly. Nick picked up and held the gun with his happiness; this was how Lee felt when he became Lieutenant...
10:00pm - The Assault of Florida
As the mighty 61st Battlion marched on towards the enemies main defences; Lee, Nick, Andy, Lewis and 8 others were heading towards the wall as the map pointed out; the enemy will be so busy defending from the full-scale assault of the 61st Battlion that the enemy did not take into account that 12 soldiers will be inside the city.
'This was easier than i thought', Lewis whispered to Nick as they got nearer to the wall.
'Don't get cocky yet, we still need to get inside the wall,' Lee reminded him firmly.
After running towards the wall, they spotted two Renegades guarding the entrance; both wearing blood-red clothes and a black jacket.
Lee called to Lewis and Andy over to him. when they got there, Lee pointed out the two soldiers outside.
'You both need to take them out together; other wise they'll sound the alarm...' Lee said quietly.
Lewis and Andy had been in this situation many a time; they loaded their guns and fitted a silencer. They both fired at the same time, killing the two guards with a bullet in the back of the head.
The 12 soldiers got inside and headed towards some barrels for cover. There, they saw at least 16 men guarding the buidling.
'Right, here's what we do; we all throw one smoke bomb each, and then four of us will get inside the main building whilst the rest of you cause some distractions,' Lee said quietly and quickly.
Lee picked Nick, Lewis and Andy to go with him. All of them threw one smoke grenade each as planned, they could hear the enemy shouting orders through the chaos. Through the grey smoke, the eight soldiers fire a volley of bullets at the enemy whilst the other four headed towards the main building.
To their surprise, when the four got inside, they saw a lot of boxes with signs on them; some of saying 'Ammo', others saying 'Explosives; some said said 'Weapons', one box even said 'Food'.
Lee looked at the map again; the supply store should be on the east side, yet this was the main building, as told by the map.
'Lee, why do i get the feeling that we've just walked into the biggest trap ever,' Nick said calmly.
However, when Lee looked at the map again, he couldn't believe his eyes...
The map had two lines; one red, one blue. They had been following the blue line, which showed the main building, but Lee never saw the red line. The red line showed where the ammo was being moved to the main building.
But rather sit and moan about it, Lee would kill two birds with one stone. After a few minutes of thinking, Lee decided to destroy everything inside the building...
Lee called out. 'Do you have any explosives on you?
The others looked at each other at first anf then they saw Lee, who was a small, devilish grin on his face...
Meanwhile, outside the building
The 8 other soldiers managed to kill the enemy soldiers within the area ease; and outside the walls, they could hear cheering; they defeated the Renegades in this area, they finally won..
Gerry, one of the Lieutenants from the 61st, was jumping up and down, screaming with joy. He saw Lee and the others smiling and they ran as fast as they can. At first the soldiers didn't know what was happening, until Lewis told them the buildings gonna blow up in 10 seconds. They all went to the barrels for cover, and the building exploded with a huge 'BANG' that echoed everywhere, even the soldiers outside the wall could hear it.
'What was in them explosives, Andy?' asked Lee; the building, and some parts of the wall crumbled at the sheer force at the explosives.
'Er, about 40% gasoline, 10% Petrol....oh and 60% Nitro...', Andy said as he too watched the building fall...
Lee and his men walked outside towards the ourskirts of the wall to see everyone cheering loud from the normal soldier to Captain Corey to General Reece, they went to join in with the others for the celebrations;
One point for England, Zero Points for the Renegades!
Although no one in the army could forsee this at the time; this is one of the many of the great battles that Lee, his squad and the army of England will fight in as they defeat the Renegades and remove their presence from all over America...
