Etsy is a place to mainly sell HANDMADE products. A few exceptions are allowed for supplies and vintage.
If you were to browse Ebay and search for "wigs" you'd find an exceptional selection of cheap decent quality factory-made wigs from Chinese sellers. These Chinese sellers are offering the wigs at a fair price, depending on length from $10 to $40 including shipping. There are a lot of sellers with identical wigs because they are all factory-made.
Those same wigs are popping up on Etsy by the bucket full, at least they were. The two most successful (and now infamous) sellers were Miss Demented and MissVioletLace. Both claimed their wigs were handmade. There are a few sellers on Etsy with legit altered Ebay wigs but MD and MVL did not do anything to the wigs.
Aside from violating Etsy's rules many of the wig sellers jacked the price up to $60 to $200. This is what has a lot of people feeling scammed, especially since the wigs were not altered in any way. Since these wigs are not handmade and are only moderately good quality there is no way in hell they're worth $200. These are not human hair lace fronts like you'd find on Beyonce's head; these are kanekalon wigs with few wefts, no skin top, no lace front and an adjustable lace cap. A trillion times nicer than Halloween and party wigs but not worth more than $40.
If you look on Youtube you'd find a lot of videos singing the praises of MD and MVL. Many of those Youtubers are feeling very angry and you'll probably see some videos about the "Wig Scam" now.
Honestly, I'm truly amazed it took this long for the s**t to go down. Etsy really fails at enforcing their own rules on handmade and has become a haven for Chinese resellers and as you can see, resellers from ALL OVER.
Looking on Etsy now you won't find as many wig resellers and I think MD and MVL may have even shut their shops down...

If you like these wigs go to Ebay, most of the Chinese sellers are very dependable. Just be aware it will probably take 2-8 weeks to get to the US. Most of these sellers' only negative feedback is about shipping times... but seriously, if you live on the east coast of the US you can't expect an airmail package from China in 2 weeks, it's just totally unrealistic.
