Today is my birthday. I bought a DVD player, a plasma screen TV, a snack machine, and new walls and floors for my house because I was throwing a party. I was turning off the payment mechanism for the machine when the doorbell rang. It was Mayuno and Miome.
“HAPPY BIRTHDAY MIKE!” they shouted so loud everyone could hear.
“Yokuzo, welcome.” I said as I let them in. They walked in and put their coats on my coat hanger.
“Wow,” Miome said, “love what you’ve done with the place!”
Mayuno turned on the TV, but turned it off at the loud volume level, “Me too, but your TV is possessed.”
I laughed. “Help yourself to some food,” I said, “pizza should be here soon and the snacks in the machine are free.”
The doorbell rang again. I answered it and looked outside. There was no one there. Then I saw a fast moving silhouette coming at me. By the time I noticed who it was, it was too late. “MIIIIKE!!!” Trowa burst through the doorway and tackled me, sending us rolling and me into the back of the wall. The impact shook the house. He stood up and looked at me, seeing that my eyes were spinning.
“Oops,” he said, “guess I put a little too much gusto in that.” He stuck out his hand and helped me up, then I grabbed the back of his shirt and picked him high into the air towards my ceiling fan.
“DON’T EVER DO THAT AGAIN!!!” I shouted.
“OK OK OK!!!” he pleaded as he got closer to the fan.
I put him down, “Don’t say that, I know you’ll do that again.” I said laughing.
“Yeah,” he laughed, “you’re probably right.” He smacked his hand into mine, “Happy birthday dude.”
“Thanks,” I said. I took his coat and put it on the coat rack. I turned back and saw his tail hit the ground, covered with snow. “Damnit Trowa, dry your tail off! You’re getting my carpet all wet!”
“Oops, sorry.” he said as he walked over to the sink.
He began to gently pull his tail as water dripped off. I watched Miome and Mayuno walk over and begin to talk to him as the doorbell rang. Mayuno grabbed his tail and rung it out, making Trowa jump into the air in pain. Miome and Mayuno laughed and pointed at him as he clung to the ceiling. I laughed too as I opened the door. A present flew into my face and knocked me onto my back. “Thanks for welcoming me inside.” Calista said as she stepped over my fallen body. I pulled the present off my back and placed it in the corner. I went to take Calista’s coat when she spun around and took as swing at me. Luckily I dodged it.
“What were you doing!” she yelled grabbing the collar of my shirt.
“Whoa whoa whoa, I was just trying to take your coat so I could hang it up!” I said panicked.
“Oh,” she said as she put me down. She took off her coat and shoved it into my chest, “then hang it up.” I walked over to the coat hanger and hung it up.
Trowa walked up to me, “I hope you don’t mind, but I brought my Playstation 2 over so we could all play.”
“And I brought some movies.” Mayuno said.
“I brought some music to listen to!” Miome said.
“Well what are we waiting for,” I said shrugging before jumping into the air, “LET’S PARTY!”
That night we played games, watched movies, danced and sung, and just had fun. The pizza was gone in seconds, and we were having so much fun it had gotten really late.
“That was awesome guys. You are the greatest party animals in the world, Including you Trowa.”
“Correction,” Trowa said, “party Neko.”
We all laughed.
“So,” Miome said, “when do you plan on opening that present?”
“Oh, I almost forgot!” I walked over to it and began to open it.
“I hope you like it,” Mayuno said, “we all chipped in for it.”
I reached down deep for what was inside. I couldn’t feel with my right arm, so I stuck my left in and moved it around. I felt something small inside, and grasped it firmly. I pulled it out slowly and opened my gloved palm. It was a red sphere. I held it up to the light and looked at it. It seemed to shine with fire.
“What is it?” I asked, but then answered my own question, “Is this materia!?”
“Fire materia,” Calista said, “most expensive of it’s kind.”
Tears welled in my eyes. “You guys are the bomb.”
They all laughed.
“Hey it was the least we could do after you fed us and did all sorts of stuff for us.” Trowa said.
It had gotten really late, and we all said our goodbyes and they went home. I took of the main screw in my wrist on my automail arm. Inside was a ball bearing, the size of the materia. I took the bearing out and my wrist went limp. I put the materia in carefully and put the screw top back on. I spun my wrist, and it worked better than ever. Still strong as a rock, but moved must cleaner and swifter. I took my boots and put them on, then walked outside, making way back to my old home.
I walked through the Forest of the Elves. Since it was late at night, it was hard to see…for a human. Being half elven and half vampire I could see everything. Walking was getting slow, so I jumped up a tree and started jumping from tree to tree until I reached the clearing where my house was. I began to walk towards it.
When I got there, I saw it was in a little bit worse condition that it was the last time I saw it. I walked inside and made my way down into the basement. I walked up to the steel door. The past rang in my ears. I was in this house, nine years old, and with my mother.
“Now Mike, I don’t want you in that room until you’re fifteen.” my mother said.
“But I just wanna see what’s inside,” I said, “just a peek.”
“No, you’re father told me you shouldn’t go in there until you’re fifteen.”
“But Dad’s not here,” I pouted angrily, “he’s never here!”
“Now I’m sure he’d be here if he could.” she said sweetly. “Now, promise me not to go in there until you’re fifteen.”
“I promise.” I said letting go of the lock pick.
“I’m sure your father would be happy to hear that.” she said as she left the room.
“…I hate him.” I muttered quietly.
I pulled the key out of my pocket. I had been holding on to this and a promise since my mother’s death. I slowly put it in the keyhole and turned it. Light shown brightly out of the keyhole, so much it made a symbol on the wall. I couldn’t make out what it was until I took the key out. It was the Kingdom Hearts symbol. I watched as it changed shapes and became and alchemy symbol. I walked up to the symbol and placed my hands on it. The light faded away. I stood there for a moment as nothing happened. Then I noticed that on the door, little pieces of dusted metal collected into another alchemic circle. I placed my hands on it and it lit up, turned, and the door opened. When I opened all the way, I noticed that there was nothing in the room. As I walked in, the light that was in the room revealed drawings on the wall. It showed a figure standing in the center of the room. The next picture showed the figure stick their hand out. The one after that was partially destroyed, and only read “Dark Demon Slayer is a type of ke-”
I didn’t know what to do, so I walked into the center of the room. I stuck my hand out and concentrated. It suddenly felt like I had gripped something, so I clenched my hand tight. There was a quick sound of metal scraping across the ground, then with black sparks a sword was in my hands. It had a black chain hanging from it with something hanging from the bottom of it. I lifted it and saw that the symbol was yet again the Kingdom Hearts symbol. Why did this keep on appearing. Just then the door slammed shut. I ran at it and pounded and smashed it to open it. I tried to transmute it but I couldn’t hold the symbol in place. I had just about given up when the sword began to pull itself at the door. This had to be the strangest blade I ever held. I jumped backward, spinning the blade. I slashed the air in front of me and pointed it at the door. It shined for a moment and shot out a black beam. It hit the keyhole on the door and the door sprung open. Just then, I knew what the script said on the wall: The Dark Demon Slayer is a type of key blade.
I made my way home quickly, not knowing what to do with the blade. And then, at the thought of it disappearing, it just sparked and vanished. “That’s right, that’s what happens to Sora!” Then another thought hit me, “How did my parents get this key blade? Where did this blade come from? Why does it exist.” I couldn’t think straight as I headed home, I ran into a young elven girl. We both fell to the ground.
“Oh man, are you ok!?” I said jumping up and lending my right hand out to her. I noticed she was quite beautiful, having light blue eyes that sparkled like stars, and long brown hair that seemed to make her look like Mother Nature herself.
“Yes, perfectly ok.” she said. She grabbed my hand as I helped her up. It was then I noticed she was feeling my hand. “Your hand…it’s not…”
“It’s automail,” I said, “a type of metal arm.” I rolled up my sleeves and she stared at it, amazed.
She went to touch it but stopped. “May I?” she asked politely. I nodded. She rubbed her soft hands up and down my arm. “It’s so smooth,” she said, “I always damage metal.”
“You work with metal?” I asked. Elves usually worked with wood. Metal was for arrowheads and swords, which were usually made by an elven blacksmith.
“Oh yes, I make swords for the rest of my race,” she said. She noticed my ears, “you should know me. You’re an elf as well.”
“I’m…” I started, “I’m actually a half elf.”
She gasped, “But, half elves don’t come to the Forest, or know how to get here! How’d you, are you a spy or an assassin!” she became worried.
“No, nothing like that, I love all elven folk. My mother was and elf, and my father was human.”
I saw that she also noticed my pointed teeth.
“You’re…you’re a vampire!” she said loudly.
I covered her mouth quickly. “Shh, I’m not a vampire, I’m a half vampire, and a good one, I’m not evil. I‘m a druid, so I can’t be evil.”
She didn’t seem to believe me. “If I wanted to drain you of your blood I would have already done it by now.” I said, looking very serious. I took my hand off of her mouth as she gasped for air. “So, you gonna turn me in?”
“No,” she said, “I guess you’re right, you would have drained me already if you weren’t good.” she brushed her hair back.
“So,” I said putting my arms behind my head, “what’s a beautiful elf doing out at this time of night?”
She blushed terribly and tried to hide it. I laughed. “I’m out collecting herbs. I use them to give blades an edge.” We both laughed at the bad joke.
“You said you had a mom who was an elf,” she spoke quietly, “who was she?”
I sat down up against a tree. “She was one of the most beautiful elf that ever lived.” I said. “Unfortunately, in the event I got this metal arm, I lost parts of my memory. What my dad looked and sounded like, and my mother’s name, among many other things.”
“That’s so sad.” she said bowing her head. “…I’m Rinowa,” she said sticking out her hand, “and you are?”
I put my right hand in hers, “Name’s Mike, and it’s a pleasure to meet you Rinowa.”
Sounds came from the trees to the left of us. Something was there, but I had no clue what it was.
“Get to safety Rinowa.” I said to her. I swung my arm out and the Demon Slayer was in my hands.
“That…that sword…” she said sweating.
The creature came closer, close enough to see it’s yellow eyes and black silhouette. “RUN!” I shouted to her. She made haste to the Village. I got into my attack stance as the creature came out of the trees.
It was a small black creature, no bigger than a small dog. It paced back and forth. I knew what it was then: A Heartless. It jumped at me, and with a swing of my blade I destroyed it, and a small heart flew up and disappeared quickly. I laughed at it’s feeble attempt to attack me. I turned around to go home when I noticed Rinowa was back, with most of the warriors in her village. Everyone had their bows slung and swords unsheathed.
“I…I thought you might have needed help.” she said quietly. The elder of the village stepped forward.
“Give me the blade,” he spoke firmly, “and you shall not be harmed.”
I figured that either way, there were too many to take on alone. “Fine,” I said as I tossed the sword to them, “take it.” He barely caught it. He swung it a few times and jabbed it into the ground.
“We have what we came for, thank you Rinowa,” he said placing his hand on her head, “…destroy him.” Every arrow in the crowd was loaded into the bow immediately. I shielded myself with my right arm and prepared for the pain. But nothing happened. I looked up and saw that Rinowa had stepped in front of me. “I won’t let you harm him.” she said firmly. Too bad a huge elf grabbed her and threw her over his shoulders kicking and yelling. I sung my arm out again as the blade came back into my hand.
“Damn, he’s already established a link with it!” the elder said, “KILL HIM!” The moment the arrows took flight, they hit a mound of spikes made of earth. I used alchemy to bring them up before they fired. The sword disappeared as I transformed into a grey wolf. I jumped over the mounds and ran through the elves, making my way out of the Forest in no time at all. I figured I shouldn’t go there for a while…and I hoped that Rinowa would be ok.
When I got home I demorphed and walked in exhausted. I kicked my shoes off and hung up my coat. This day had brought me to the point of death. I laid down on the rug in front of the TV with my hands behind my head, just resting. At that point Meg walked in.
“How was your party?” she asked smiling.
“Good,” I gasped out, “best one yet.”
“Are you ok?” she said as she hung up her coat.
“Yeah, just tired.” I said.
She kicked off her shoes. “I guess that means you had fun.” she smiled at me. She always looked cute when she smiled, so it made me happy.
“It was a blast.”
“That’s good to hear.”
I got up and went to go to bed. I was at the door way when she walked in front of me. She just stared at me.
“What?” I said confused.
She smiled again at my confusion. She wrapped her arms around me and gave me a kiss. “Happy birthday Mike.”
I laughed. “That’s one of the best gifts I could ever get.” I said.
She walked towards the sink to get some water before she went to sleep. The moment I got through the doorway I heard “Why is there cat hair in the sink?” I laughed and plopped down on the bed, falling asleep instantly.

The cold silence of space only punctuates the feeling of death that emanates from this virtuously lifeless planet.
Only one thing is alive and well here...evil. And it must be destroyed, decimated, exterminated.
But first, it must be found...
