a little brown book
finding the life of Alexander Shaw, a kind of serial story.
“It never occurred to you?” He asked. “You never came to visit my grave .” he added, in a faintly hurt undertone “I know I've not been dead a year, but still.”
“It hurt to much to think about.” I said, for a moment forgetting that we weren't alone. “That you were dead at all, let alone rotting beneath the earth. For what memories I wanted of you; I could hold them closer just by being alone.” I shook my head clearing it. “How did this happen!?!”
Edward quirked his head and looked over my shoulder. “Why isn't he bespelled?” he asked the vampire.
I could feel the vampire's shrug. Once again, he had come up close behind me. I shivered, but didn't move away again, realizing that he would just keep following.
“It wouldn't work.”
Edward smiled, then laughed. “Ah of course it wouldn't.” He waggled a finger at me playfully. “Didn't I tell you that Xander was the best of us all?”
“You did.”

I hunched, stuffing my bare hand under my muffler. I did not like being discussed as though I was not there. Suddenly Edward flung his arms around me, in a fierce hug. I was shocked for only a moment and then hugged him back.
