a little brown book
finding the life of Alexander Shaw, a kind of serial story.
My breath pooled around me mixed with the fog of the streets. I pulled my muffler around my sholders and didn't make eye contact with anyone. It was late at night, the theatre had been closed up before I left, but there were still many people on the streets; bars, brothels, and other less than reputable entertainments, such as gambling halls would be open for hours yet; and on the other side of town, where the likes of Henry frequented, they might dance untill dawn, if the occasion called for it.

But even still I could isolate myself on this foggy street. Outside of the brothel I wrapped myself in a protection spell, running the chain over my fingers, again using the texture to set my mind calm. Inside that bubble I could latch into a precast spell waiting in my 'safe space' at my lodgings. Around me the fog swirled ina way that would be disturbing if anyone noticed. But no one did. If I had learned anything in my years in London, it was that no one ever did.

The precast seeking spell twined around my fingers like silken yarn; then I cast it out, seeking everything I had, and to my surprise it came back almost immediately. He was close.

I turned, and in the fog, I saw a faint shadow, then a red glow, then it resolved itself into a figure I had seen over and over in my dreams; and once in a scrying vision.

I clutched the silver key, and held my breath.

"I understand." he said, with dripping humor in his voice. "That you are looking for me?"
