a little brown book
finding the life of Alexander Shaw, a kind of serial story.
The vampire paused for a moment, and when he saw I didn't move, began to move towards me; to my shock pushing his way through my shields.

Hastily I tired to reinforce them, but it didn't work.
Less than an arm's reach away from me, he stopped again, and gave a faint little smile.
"You're quite the little mage aren't you?" he asked. "What was it you wanted from me?" He'd grown a beard since I'd seen him in the vision, a trim little thing that hugged the line of his chin and a mustache to match, but there was no mistaking he was the same one.
"Now why is it I think I've seen you before?" he mused out loud, while I tried to gather my wits. A hand gloved in dark grey reached out and stroked the line of my cheek I jerked backwards, and realized that somehow, I had gotten backed against a wall. He had had me retreating without my even realizing it.

That was about the time that I started rethinking my plans for revenge; what did I know about vampires anyway? And this one seemed so powerful as well.
"Ah! I remember now, I haven't seen you; but I met someone who was quite fond of you."
"Killed him you mean." I shot out without thinking.
"mmm?" he raised an eyebrow, then laughed. "I see. that's why you've come looking for me." he leaned forward, trapping me between his arms agaisnt the wall. "You know, he would have died anyway he was seeking his death."
"Shut your mouth." I choked, trying to sink through the wall, and away from his awful appealing face and inviting smile. He wasn't attractive, not handsome like Henry, or sweet faced like Edward, or even with my good features. He shouldn't have been attractive.
Trying to get away set off one of my coughing fits, which at least gave me an excuse to turn away from him, even if it didnt' make the vamprie back off in the slightest. At last, I turned back, breathless.
"You killed him, and don't try to evade it. He was my friend."
"He would have been more if you'd let him." observed the vampire frankly. "Why didn't you?"
"Shut up!" Without thinking, I struck him hard across the face with the back of my hand.
